Hi all,

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom or experience of the above as I have damaged my knee playing football for the first time in 2 years. Two weeks later and a trip to the knee specialist = wait for an mri scan before they can confirm what type of surgery is required and a two weeks wait for an urgent physio visit.

Currently I have been told no impact sport at all but that an exercise bike would be good. Also if anyone has done something similar any advice on length of time for recovery? I would hate to be off the bike all summer especially if the weather continues like today 🙁 but it looks like a summer of cycling indoors.

Any recommendations on cycle trainers greatly appreciated too.

Cheers

I had my torn cartilege repaired under keyhole surgery. First week kept leg elevated & rested. Second week started walking bulding upto 3 miles by end of week. Third week daily ride on road/canal towpath building upto 20 miles. Fourth week started on easy off-road stuff. End of month given all clear & just carried on as normal.
Basically, I followed the surgeon's instructions and didn't attempt to overdo the exercises.

Cheers for the info in that case I hope the MRI scan is sooner rather than later as today they promised to make an appointment in the next 4 weeks. I then get the results in 6 weeks and however long after that for the surgery. Until then I will hobble around like a wannabe gangster.

I also had surgery last year and cycling was part of the recovery program. I had a few problems after the surgery and didn't heal as quickly as some but after two weeks I could sit on the bike on the turbo trainer with no resistance and use my other leg to just get my knee used to the movement again. One of the most useful physio exercises I had to do was balancing on a half ball which not only trains your muscles but your nerve endings too.
