Camera - no, not really if you have a modern DSLR. People have been making sharp images on film cameras for years.
lens - yes to a certain extent. Cheaper ones wide open are softer.
shutter speed - yes potentially, good technique holding the camera will help.
aperture - yes, each lens has a sweet spot for sharpness.
Some post processing subtle sharpening may have taken place also.

Gah, as great as this thread is - in fact, I'd say the best thread ever, it frustrates me. I have a shiny new Sony A55, which has only taken a handful of photos. I work all week on the Olympic site and cameras are not allowed on site, so can't keep it in my truck - I'll be buggered if I'm leaving it in my hotel room, so it stays at home 😡

Cheers! That round rock has been shot by all the landscape greats - they got better weather though... Strangely, when I showed the photo to my Mum (who lives on Skye) she told me my Grandad had shot it back in the 50s!
haha. Can't get enough of mother nature's assests! The more I look at the second one... the more I want it to be the entire back wall of my kitchen.
Too kind.... but for a certain fee, it can be arranged 😀 Or you could just take a holiday in Elgol - there's an amazing holiday house right on the hill above the bay, with huge glass picture windows. If I'm ever rich enough, I'm going to hire it for a month and hope for a decent sunrise / set.
You could always pose as a travelling housekeeper...

1) Most modern dSLRs should give you clear pictures at the resolution displayed here, and much larger. That said, my pictures have always looked crisper at any size since I bought my 5DII a couple of years back
2) This can make a big difference in terms of both raw quality of the glass, but also its accuracy at focussing. My L-series lens is always more accurate at focussing than my non-L-series lenses. Also, I use quite a few old manual-focus lenses, which I happily curse for blurred photos until I look at them on the PC and see that I missed the focus point by 4 inches or so, and what's in focus is pin-sharp...
3) Not really shutter speed, more how steady the camera is held. I take a lot of mine on the tripod, and compared to the ones which I don't bother with, it shows.
4) This can make a big difference. Most lenses are sharper at f/8 - f/11, simply because this is their sweet spot. Wider aperture means you use more of the lens' glass so the lower-quality part at the edges comes into play. Narrower aperture (bigger 'f' number) and you start getting diffraction effects as the amount of glass used is so tiny
Some people may sharpen their photos, I rarely do unless it's an attempt to resue a slightly blurred one.
So yes, I do use some pretty expensive kit, but almost any camera should be able to produce pin-sharp images of this size, if used well.

Funnily enough I'm just hanging out in Apollo Bay for the weekend. Weather a bit grey but getting some swimming in.
I usually stay with friends in Melbourne for a few months of the year but this time thought I'd see a bit more of the country to the west. So passed through Adelaide twice, perhaps spending a week there in total. Really liked it, but then I'm a country boy at heart - went to the farmer's market and visited cellar doors in the Hills, Barossa and Clare. Like you, I really rated Turkey Flat's 09 shiraz (and the winemaker gave me a tour :-)). But preferred Clare and Adelaide Hills generally. You seem to be enjoying life in Adelaide?
We had a paddle at Appollo on the way through, but too cold for swimming. The ice cream was good though!
We moved out to ADL about 18 months ago now, and really enjoying it. Our recent trip to Tassie certainly has raised a few questions of "where next", but sadly there are precious few jobs down there 🙁
As for the wines, I really like the big Shirazes the Barossa has to offer, but I think my favourite at the moment has to be Foggo's in McLaren Vale, both for their Shiraz and their Chardonnay. Skillogalee in Clare has some excellent German varietals, and I personally reckon some of the Hills' Pinot Noirs are the best available (and certainly better than the Tassie attempts we tried).
Give us a shout next time you're up here if you fancy a ride - it's deceptively good!

Tassie is absolutely amazing. Jobs aside, I can't think of a single reason not to move to Hobart. Make sure you do some exercise there though, the food is far far far too good, so you'll eat lots!
