[Closed] Petrol Lawnmowers - Worth it?

Get a 4s petrol Nonda. Mowing is then not a chore... Only surpassed by the bigger boys garden toy; the ride on.

Nondas hold their value well so if you choose to gravel over or move to a flat, you'll get a lot of your money back. Albeit, you'll have to put more into it in the first place. But you can't spend too much on boys toys can you?

Agreed

I've got a medium size hilly garden. The Honda makes short work of it.

And because it's petrol I can easily cut the verges in the street that the council only cut once a year.

How many have a mulching mower?

Been a great time saver for me, also means I can cut the elderly neighbours gardens & verges that the council claim aren't theirs without bother.

mispent youth paying for bike bits before moved into the bike industry was paid for by mowing lawns for a company ....

had a honda for stripes and a kawasaki for big lawns(used to cut one lawn for a whole day thats how big it was but we werent allowed to use the ride on) and a hayter for the manse all expensive bits of kit all made the job easy as hell - also used a flymo on a rope for bankings

parents got a mountfield for their lawn -i used it once and said - just get a flymo will you ... mountfield are not worth the cheese they are made out of !

was pathetically underpowered for a self propelled machine and the wheels were barely held on and the thing got loads lower as the axle bent as the box loaded up ! give me a fly mo any day for general average lawns on a budget.

Hmmm, they seem ok to me, but them I'm no professional 😳

Anyway, this looks like it will go for a song if your local enough to collect 🙂

Cheers.

my dads mower is a hayter harrier 2:

http://www.vintagemowers.net/hayter.html

apparently a vintage mower!

but unlike that one, his has had maintenence where required. the red engine went in the late 90s, and it has a nice new (well it was in the late 90s) briggs and stratton 5hp engine.
remember it getting a new blade too once upon a time.
and a new throttle assembly
and a new clutch assembly too (though that needed looking at last time i used it)

its monstrously heavy, and therefore give killer stripes.

I go for petrol ones because I can fix them. Can't think of using anything made in the last 20 years being 2-stroke. Got my current Honda off ebay for a tenner.

Petrol also means I don't need 200m of cable.

I find a petrol lawnmower much more advantageous and indeed beneficial in my social hierarchy of non petrol lawnmower owning friends, neighbours and work colleagues. thumbs up 😀

It also cuts grass.

This thread has turned into a boasting about the size of your garden thread.

Obviously if I want to cut to the far end of the garden I need to carry a spare fuel can.
