Bunnyhop - yep, those are the places I'll be looking at more closely and discussing with the girlfriend. Although earlier today when I told her I'd been investigating where we could live near Manchester (didn't tell her how I'd been doing it) she berated me for not doing actual work! Pah, no pleasing some people.

Current place I rent in York is just shy of £500 a month. That's a 1 bed flat with a kitchen/living room. It has it's own loft and a shared shed which are the main reasons I took it. Maybe it's more of a bungalow than a flat. Anyway, I think that's bloody expensive but not unusual for York, not when I was looking anyway.

I'll be in touch with the STW massive closer to the time of moving for more sage advice.

Cheers everyone. You've been most helpful.

xherbivorex all cool now at home etc?

not really.
it's rubbish living alone after 9 years of having someone else there, but i couldn't share the place with anyone else either. and i don't want to move out cos i really like living here.
sucks.

Turkish Delight is ace.

I live off Upper Chorlton Road BTW. I find Chorlton okay in small doses but prefer to head into the city.

There's no "normal" MTBing to be had but I'm currently "crisping up" a little jumpspot mini-pumptrack in Chorlton Water Park 🙂

ben, i found that trail btw.
although it was quite swampy the day i went over, plus my norco six was a bit overkill for having much fun on it i think.

I like the Marble. They're dog friendly. Pity about the farting locals at the bar 8)

I'm another New Mills resi - great riding from your door 25mins into mcr on the train, easy access to Buxton - love it here.

Crazylegs where is New Mills are you? Do you have a SS Genesis roadbike and a blinged up Titus?

I'm another one with a chorlton passport, whilst its okay your misses would go mental driving out to Buxton every day, you've really got to be the otherside of stockport (just not in stockport as it a hole).

Hey if you guys are going out for a blast next week then post up details, I fancy getting out as I've not been out on the stumpy since christmas, its been road mile for the last 6 months!

Having lived in Macclesfield for 12 years I'd say its worth a look. Quite a strong riding scene and the Teggs Nose / Macc Forest (+ / - cumberland brook) circuit has to be one of the best year round routes in the Peak. Cycle centre in congleton is decent local ish bike shop. Good access to lakes / north and central wales / dale. Hope Valley etc is a long day ride away but do-able.

Chapel / Chinley worth a look. Loads of different riding options - hope valley / white peak as well as usual. I've been in Chapel for about 8months dont really know or ride with any of the locals but thats because I'm mainly biking with the girlfriend. 18Bikes in hope has to be favourite local shop. The canal towpath from Whalley towards manchester has just been re-surfaced so comuting along it and the cycle lanes to central manchester shoud be easy enough. The downside is its a bit more of a ball ache to get to the M6 than Macc.
