I’ve been with Pedal Cover for three years for my bike and house insurance. I’ve just got a renewal notice for 210% increase - wow. Same house, same bikes, no claims, low risk area, no flooding, etc.

Anyone else had a similar rise? And does anyone have better experience with other companies?

There was a big rise a few years ago when they changed underwriter but I stuck with them. I did have a bad experience when I renewed last year and by chance found out they had removed buildings cover the previous year without specifically telling me! Fortunately I didn't need to claim that year.

I dropped them when they refused someone on heres claim when they couldn’t produce a receipt for their lock.

Who keeps lock receipts?

I kept the lock receipts. I think it mentions them in the policy but it does seem overkill. Buying 3 locks of the required standard cost quite a bit. The alternative was adding bolts of a specified standard to the garage door but I wasn't going to drill holes in a nearly new door.

Exactly. I emailed them along the lines of "this can't possible be true can it? Because there's no way I will renew if it is.", they confirmed it was true so when the next renewal came through (much increased), I went elsewhere.

I was with yellowjersey for years for my bike insurance. The cost this year was twice that of the previous years so ended up going with Eversure.

Regarding the mention of receipts for locks, this is clearly explained by them; 'If you are making a claim for a bicycle that was secured with a bike lock, our claims handlers will need to see some form of evidence for the lock you were using. We recommend finding the receipt now to make sure you have this if you need it. If you do not have a receipt for your lock, please get in touch with our team so we can agree on an alternative proof of ownership for your bicycle lock. In most cases, this would be a photo of the lock with your bike.'

They approved my Almax chain through pictures, with no issues.
