[#3595432]

Just bought a network drive for home... windows 7 machine, wireless netgear router acting as a dchp device.

Instructions say, plug into the router, plug in the power to the network drive, load up cd rom and hit "discover".... and nothing is discovered...

The only suggestion from anywhere is to connect it to the pc.

Before I spin off into a pc rant, any suggestions for installing it into the router so I can use it around the house..

Thanks..

Rick

"installation CDs" make me nervous. Have a look on the manufacturer's website, see if there's a newer version of the tools maybe, but TBH I'd want to get it working without proprietary bloatware.

Can you see it from the router? Ie, do you see an IP address allocated under 'connected devices' or similar? You should just be able to go to the share with \\ipaddress (eg, \\192.168.0.5 or whatever) if it's using any sort of sensible protocol.

Are you connecting it wired? Over wireless, you'll need to enter whatever passwords you've got for WPA. RTFM, but I'd guess you might have to set it up wired first?

What make / model is it?

Are you using Norton? You may need to add the IP of router and or drive as a trusted network.

Thanks Cougar,

iomega home media drive. Nothing comes up under connected devices. Does the router need a reboot when its connected?

Shouldn't need a reboot. You've missed a few questions.

If the router has assigned an address by DHCP it should be listed in the router config under attached devices or similar. (What Cougar said up there)
