Pair of speakers for the kitchen, Sonos one sl

I have a couple of Sonos 1s in the living room. I've been pretty impressed by the sound for a small speaker. We have a symphonisk as well. It doesn't sound quite as good but its not in a stereo pair.

The newer symphonisks can apparently form a stereo pair

Stop right there before you go Sonos.
As far as I know you need the proprietary app, I knew this so investigated further. We have an AudioPro C5 which is unbelievable! Better sound than the Sonos and if you want 2 or more you can link them together I believe. Don’t regret buying it for a second, the bass is for the size of the thing…. Phenomenal!

Worth a listen to what you want in Richer Sounds. We had a demo and the C5 was the winner

I really wanted an Audio Pro. I just assumed a pair was unaffordable. Turns outs they are the same price. Curry’s have them at £139

However I don’t think I’ve got space for 2

I’ll give the Sonos a go, they arrive today. If I’m not happy they will go back in January

I’m getting warnings that some streams are being discontinued by BBC in mid-2023.

same on Bose SoundTouch

Ah - I understand now. Apologies for any confusion. To keep the thread marginally readable, I’ve removed my earlier posts.

The ShoutCast streaming protocol that the BBC are using on TuneIn (Sonos Radio get’s it’s radio URLs from TuneIn so is also affected) and myTuner will soon be changed to the HLS protocol instead. As we already support HLS streaming, this shouldn’t be a problem, though after the change-over you may need to refresh (delete and re-create) any favourites to BBC stations you’ve made in the My Sonos section of the app. You will not need to add a new service to your Sonos system to continue listening to BBC stations, as I previously stated. Many non-BBC stations available on Sonos already utilise the HLS streaming protocol.

Looks like it shouldn’t be a problem. My intention is to use AirPlay from the one app any way

I've got the T20 floorstanders and they are ace. Not relevant to this thread though.

However, I had a side by side listen to the C5 and the C10 - the C10 sounded much better imo in the environment I was in (PC World 🤣)

I recently got a second sonos one to try them in stereo set up in the kitchen.
They sound great when sat down listening, but as you walk around cooking etc. The sound stage is a bit funny to my ears.

So I swapped back to one and put the second one upstairs instead.

They paired fine and it's easy.

My only other issue with Sonos is the app is RUBBISH, The search is very poor needing specific spelling of songs/artists.
Where as my apple music app is much more intuitive and will find artists even if mis spelt etc.
It's so bad it makes me want to change speaker brand

I only use the Sonos app for setup, and then play music from the Apple Music app via AirPlay. Works a dream.

Yeah kitchens aren’t necessarily the best shape for stereo. My kitchen is quite long and thin so have them down one end so you’re always between them, sounds good.

In a squarer kitchen you’ll likely end up moving about and being closer to one or the other which will mess up the stereo sound. It would be good if you could set them up as a non stereo pair with linked volume, but I don’t think you can.

I’m assuming I’ll just find a play list on Spotify and then select the speakers from there. Currently Spotify lists my telly, Chromecast sound etc.

You'll have to link Spotify to the Sonos speakers through the Sonos app first. You'll only have to do it once.

Then once that's done you can go to Spotify and select the speakers from there.

The Sonos app isn't that bad, just not as intuitive (pretty) as the Spotify app.

Yes you can.... just select the speakers you want to play to in the Sonos app, that creates a (non-stereo pair) group. that group will show up in the Spotify app also (until you change the group)

Yeah but something permanent with properly locked volumes.

Yep, we do that - and just play to the group via Spotify directly.

They remember the relative volumes, so if you change the volume in Spotify, it keeps whatever offset you had between the rooms.

Not sure what you mean by permanent but they stay as a group until you ungroup them.

Just noticed that John Lewis are selling the Sonos One SL Smart Speakers at £139 if you don't mind them in white.

https://www.johnlewis.com/sonos-one-sl-smart-speaker/p4427042

Just bought one as one or our Original Play 1's seems to have died - spent over an hour endlessly applying factory reset, but can't get it to reconnect..
