aracer I don't think thats reasonable - but if that is what they want to do fine their playground their rules

So fred gets banned for a toe over the line. wrong IMO but consitent with what mark said

But GW is not in the habit of getting bans - none in 11 years and SA is one of the most helpful and least antagonistic folk on the forum with no history for years. Both banned for apparent trivia. GWs post so inoffensive that it is still on the thread unedited

Thats the inconsistency.

"He brings nothing worthwhile to STW."

Tob be fair there are very few people that do bring anything worthwhile to STW.

Who is SA?

Is there anyway of finding out who the most frequent complainers are?
Lurking, complaining and getting people banned could be more fun than anything else, ever.

It's an open forum, fred like the rest of us has the right to his opinion (onion) and as long as the rules, which are clear, aren't broken, I don't see a problem.
Fred knows the rules and pushes them to the limit at times. Where's the problem?

It's not a case of like or dislike ernie. The fact is that Fred has been banned many times for various infringements of the rules, which lets face it, are pretty relaxed for general communication/debate.

Is it really that difficult ? 🙄

i feel for the mods as it is not an easy job and I agree that whatever they do they wont appease everyone.
Sometimes it is hard for people to see the reason though let alone form an opinion on it. This is what seems to cause most debates ...confusion not disagreeing
I got banned once for arguing no bad language just arguing - they did have a point to be fair. I also got banned for swear word avoidance though you could type the swear word. During the clamp down. The mods did respond/chat though on my second banning and warned me first time but I had not checked e-mail. Not saying I agree with either but they were reasonable when they did it.

Let's see - I've been banned twice.

Once for use of the word **** (in a completely non-racist fashion). I thought I was pretty hard done to on that occasion, but it was around the time of the appearance of the BNP on Question Time and sensitivities might have been high.

I also got banned for posting images on some of Elfs threads as he was, at that point, doing the same to disrupt other threads he'd taken the huff over. He didn't get a ban for that though.....

At the end of the day, it's not that hard to stay out of trouble. Just remember there are no visual clues to "soften/modify" the written word and treat everyone with a bit of respect. If you really don't get on with someone, use the blocking script or just learn to turn a blind eye.

To be fair that's happened to me on more than one occasion - I've been banned for my earthy language, as my bans inevitably are, but the "offending" posts have been left unmoderated.

TBH it just makes me smile - I think to myself "they're taking the piss" 😀

I got banned for moderating myself. For typing * .

I was trying to demonstrate just how good I could be at the job. Honestly, what do I have to do to get the power of the ban hammer?

Not really. It was useful in filtering out lots of images and stuff I had no intention of looking at and were only being used to disrupt an otherwise engaging thread.

Ah - its gone now. It was there when I started this thread was on the first page of the dumped thread.

I'd better not repeat it I guess. email me if you really want to know. It was less offensive than the one of jon rambos on that thread but about himself not about someone else on the forum.

i was joking you are no where near the level of banning. You need to be [imho]right wing , nuts , homophobic, sexist ...oh hold on 😀
We just seem to disagree and I have no issue with that tbh.

I'd love to know who people have on their own 'banned' lists.

Proper fascinating that.

I wonder if some of the mods take Fred's posts and post-banning correspondence personally, and therefore have a 'hair-trigger' attitude to topics that, if stated by other folk on here, would be judged as acceptable?

There are plenty of bully-boys on here who's behaviour is far worse than that of Fred. Even Mark to an extent. I know that from correspondence during my ban.

I've had Staffies, I'm well used to uninformed people crossing the road.

bullheart - of course they do. Didn't he send them loads of strange star wars themed messages when 'Rudeboy' was made no more?
Kind of funny but a total PITA if they were filling your inbox. If you have previous you have to expect to be dealt with more swiftly... it's almost blindingly obvious to me.

There is a lot of twaddle on this forum.

I'm beginning to wonder if some of the 'people' on here are actually bots developed by some university research department investigating artificial intelligence.

Not bad.

I got banned for a week for calling Tony Blair a see you next Tuesday. Which I thought was fair comment and my honest opinion.

Ok, I just cannot imagine being that bothered about another poster. I dont cross the road to avoid people either so maybe it's an extension of that. Interesting though. I've never really considered blanking people out, seems a bit weak if I'm honest. Is it a control thing? Sorry if this sounds rude.

Have you ever been banned TeeJ?

Yes - a couple of years ago I told an extremely offensive joke late at night when pissed. I forgot he difference between chattig with your mates in a corner of the bar and standing on the bar shouting

In 9 words it is offensive to disabled Christians and jews. got a week for that and probably fair enough. However I have seen the same joke on here unmodded another day - presumably no one reported it.

its a funny joke

Oops...y'know, I knew there was something wrong as soon as I wrote that. Sorry dude. 😳

I'd say they possibly weren't as uninformed as you think. 🙂

I think the blocking plug-in is ace. Wont tell you who I have blocked but it's helping my blood pressure. Can it be made integral to the forum?

I do it with a few posters to stop me from seeing their posts and reacting to them. Its to assist my poor self control.

Yeah - thanks for pointing it out - very amusing IMHO. Well done for getting it removed by constantly pointing out the inconsistency 😈

FTFY

I've been banned for - actually I think mentioning what for would get me banned again - and managed to successfully argue with Mark and get myself unbanned when I thought I was likely just arguing myself into a longer ban.

@TeeJ, Yeah, I know the feeling. Having one's post reported and seeing something almost identical written down somewhere else. Pita.

Which just emphasises the other point in Mark's post - they can't read everything on here. If you've got a problem with somebody else posting something you got banned for, the solution is simple - a nice clicky at the bottom of each post. Personally I'm not that childish.
