[#2379781]

I’m putting together a trip to Manchester velodrome ( http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/manchester-velodrome-taster-session ) which will require people to pay me up front as I have to make the initial outlay for the booking. I can’t rely on people paying me on the night because any no-shows will cost me a tenner each.

What is the best/easiest/safest way of transferring money?

Is giving people that I don’t know sufficient information to make a transfer directly into my account a good idea, or should I just ask people to send me a cheque?

I don’t “do” PayPal.

Any ideas?

your bank details are on every cheque you ever write i would just get them to pay direct into my bank.
If you are really worried open a new one with no overdraft cheque book just for this purpose.

I don't get too paranoid about giving people my details - they can't do a lot with your account number and sort code

Oh, and that cheque also has a specimen of your signature too!

just don't give them your address too!

or, say, your pornstar name...

Male sure they include something in the transfer that identifies them - having 24 deposits all saying 'velodrome' isn't going to help...

just giving people you're bank account number and sort code means all they can do with that info is pay money in. as has been said - there's more information on any cheque you write.

you need more info to do anything more. Unfortunately for Jeremy, it was fairly easy to find more info on him....

Just set up a new on-line account for it. It stops me accidently spending it anyway!
