Yeah, sites used to intentionally register domains like micorsoft.com in the hope of catching out the ham-fisted (so to speak). Modern browsers will often warn / block that sort of shenanigans these days
Yep that one used to catch our tech people back in the day, mistype a letter and then the whole porntastic explosion on the desktop and mad panic to hit the power button.
I had to check. That Fabricant tweet is real! WTF.

TBH first time I heard of him I had to check HE was real and not a parody 🙂
Those on this thread who claimed that complaining about porn in the workplace is prudish should consider that it's actually a criminal offence under the Indecent Displays (Control) Act of 1981
If any indecent matter is publicly displayed the person making the display and any person causing or permitting the display to be made shall be guilty of an offence.

Haha, Just 2 minutes ago I had to double check he was a real person too.
According to the Beeb, Parish was a Remainer. I'm wondering if he decided he'd had enough of the car crash the Tories have become, stumbled across a porn site by accident, then decided resigning in disgrace by doing it again was an easier way out.
Though I strongly suspect he's just a weird porn watching old man.
There's a pub called "The Horns" at the top end of Cannock Chase, conveniently situated not far from the halfway point of the Monkey Trail.
Be careful when googling the location of Horns pub.
Back in the early naughties the company I was working for called “MWG” had to buy MWG.com after many complaints from our customers who accidentally went to this website. Men With Girls dot com
I work for GA Info Systems and there website couldn't be accesses from some Spanish / Portuguese(?) companies because G A I S mean gay and the websites you got taken to were definitely not about data analytics
I had to check. That Fabricant tweet is real! WTF.
That’s a name where correct spelling is important…

Not a tech person, I was working in the studio of a print company, and it was very much the early days of the internet - I can’t for the life of me remember what browsers we used but most likely Navigator or Explorer. We did have an ISDN line, thankfully no dialup. Certainly the sudden appearance of endless popups exploding across the screen did indeed result in frantic attempts to shut the browser down, and turn everything off. Hopefully having saved whatever was being worked on beforehand…
Yes did that once when on a survey for an alarm system.
Laptop opened and Single track opened on my home screen and porn was opened in an ad.
I quickly cleared it but my client saw it.
Lost the job.
I didn’t ever look at that or even think of looking at that but the advertising on Single Track cost me that job and probably more.
Actual LOL. He knows what he was searching for…
So what was it?
I can't help but think there's a Tory PR person somewhere pulling their hair out and screaming, 'CAN EVERYONE JUST STOP SAYING PORN!'
I can’t help but think there’s a Tory PR person somewhere pulling their hair out and screaming,
I don't think so, we're all talking about that, The Daily Mail and Angela Rayner, and not about parties, the Crime and Policing bill, their corrupt PPE contracts, the collapse of our status as a trading nation and the living standards of millions, the highest death rate from covid in Europe, the previous casual slaughter of thousands of care home residents...
It's called the 'dead cat' manoeuvre.
We are now in the era where Tory sexual sleaze is actually considered decent PR because it conceals the shitshow HM Government is actively delivering.
It’s a Thing, you have to keep pumping stuff out there so the news/media cycle is always moving forward and focussing on the new stories, makes it hard to discern fact from fiction and muddies the timeline of stuff.
Just look at how the time distortion is happening on the not testing for covid before moving nhs patients into care homes and the Attempt at Starmer PartyGate(different years different law).
The only aim is to have the weekend papers a few days before local elections talking about something other than Tory peers getting raided by the police over potential massive taxpayer fraud, and the suggestion from former BofE bloke that 80% of our current inflation is due to Brexit, even though we've just had to back down on border checks again.
I would be very surprised if the timing of this story wasn't directly approved and orchestrated by the whips office and the party - it's all too well-managed to keep the revelations rolling along for a 7-day cycle.

You forgot the UK elections bill. Though a big fanfare about "this is the last chance to vote without photo ID" may focus minds this week.
Ohh is that the same ppe they are still paying 500k a day to hide 🙂
TBH to keep on-track and off politics we should probably have another thread on the time you opened the wrong sort of porn by mistake 🙂
You forgot the UK elections bill.
There are so many scandals that it is easy for many to feel overwhelmed, or de-sensitized to it. Which is part of the strategy, of course.

Again, I recommend "Hypernormalisation" b y Adam Curtis to see what can be achieved (and has happened) to desensitise people to huge negative changes in society. It was iPlayer only, but it is on YouTube:
That's reminded me to finally get around to watching Hypernormalisation, so that's my afternoon sorted
