There could never be a "one hour" limit - it would fly directly in the face of the Governments Herd Immunity plan...….

If one goes somewhere more remote then surely there's lower risk as you'll be further from the 5g tower coverage....

I can see some merit in it however - even if it does not really exist.

Lets take Birmingham - population density is 3700 people per square km. Or to make that easier to comprehend if you put a grid of 100mx100m squares over the place there would be 37 people living in each square. And that is an average - many many of those squares won't be lived in at all as covered with industry, business or retail. Others will be full of middle class homes with nice big private gardens. The poor areas might have a population density 15-20 times the average for the whole city. That's more than 4000 people living in a 100x100m square. To avoid heavy foot traffic of folk getting their bit of fresh air and exercise a day in an area such as that you want find a way to limit it a bit. It could have been a horribly complicated setup with different surnames let out at different times of the day in some sort of timetable. But a 1 hour limit would/could/did have some sort of containing effect. Also gives the authorities something to use for the known local 'characters' seen out and about way too much.

But instead it's a sort of guidance that got sort of mentioned for middle class entitled types living somewhere where it bears very little relevance to doing an activity that is largely irrelevant to wring their hands about or flaunt depending on their mindset and other middle class folk to get to feel all narked about watching other people doing it. I guess it's a better outlet than kicking the cat.

Why does nobody! (and by that – I mean mountain bikers and roadies) seem to be sticking to the one hour allocated time of exercise per day

I can't speak for others but because i stay in a very rural area of galloway rather than a built up/populous area i'm very fortunate to be able to go out whenever i want without seeing anyone else, i imagine i'd be far more cautious if i lived in a town/city etc.

I went out for 57 minutes today, so they'll be no knock on my door. However,if the 3 hour ride from the other day is ever discovered I'll be toast.

Not at all, just operate a flexitime system. 57 minutes today means 3 minutes in the bank. Maybe one day you didn't go out at all, that's 60 minutes banked right there.

If you're in negative time, just promise you'll pay it back at some point. Maybe when the weather is shit.

😉

It’s worse than that: I rode through a red light today.

No cars at the junction, had seen no cars for ten minutes. Then I rode through. The end of civilisation must be near.

I'm using an "exercise offset" system by which I buy unused exercise credits from old people. Well if it works for the world's biggest polluters it should work for me right?

I cycled over the Forth Bridge on the road today during my 3 hour ride. Figured it was safer than dodging people on the cycle path. Lovely sunny day, bit windy.

Clearly some people (MichaelmCc) need to get out more..

Perhaps he's someplace were he can't. It does seem to be causing bitterness and anti British sentiments in some parts 🙁

Considering where he is that might be a bit insensitive.

The one hour is not in the guidelines! Someone asked Gove if there was a time limit and he replied with something along the lines of: it depends on how fit you are, but an hour seems reasonable.

Sundial top cap

Jest ye not!

My wife bought me a portable sundial for Xmas once. I think it was meant as a joke. It probably would fit on a top cap but it's about twice the diameter.

I was going to go up there but decided to Reel it in at the last minute. Went out on road loop instead. Did 1hr 3min, can I borrow Caher's spare 3 mins or do I deserve a public spanking.

Ok boomer.

Are you in your 90's and looking down the gerations at me, because it might at least explain why old people drive arround at 1/1.6 of the speed limits 🤣

I’ve been buying mine from my other half and from one of the neighbours who’s in an at risk category. Competitive market though, paying about £2 an hour on average.

Am I allowed to rollerblade in my 1hr?

Gove didn't mention it but the M62 is virtually empty nowadays....

I was overthinking it. Obviously the answer is a simple hourglass.

The problem with arbitrary guidelines or assumptions is that they are just that. The initial spreading of the virus wasn't by cyclists riding for three hours on their own. Crowded public transport and mass gatherings spread it around and the lag between asymptomatic and those suffering is playing out now. Yes, we can all do our bit, and the measure of a law is what happens when we all do it, but picking on the least problematic will always lead to contempt.
I did get an extra fitness boost today though when I overtook another roadie (with as much space as possible) who then jumped on my wheel without saying a word. A PR on a little uphill drag saw him disappear. He wasn't on flybys so couldn't leave him a sarky comment.

Dorris obviously verbally granted us our freedom due to empathy from his previous velocipede proclivities. You could ask Gove to clarify as I'm sure he's been to the odd roller-disco in his heavy crack days.

That's good news. I might video it. Just think of a fat beardy bloke in lycra doing a "Wow Bodyform" tribute.

Gove and Sarah Vile will love it
