Hi,

I remember from a few weeks ago that there are a few painters and decorators on here so hopefully someone can help.

I know this is a piece of string question really, but how much would you expect to charge to repaint 19 Wooden Windows (all six panel, 2 sash, and 4 bays, one made up of 5 sash windows, the other 3 are upstairs), all the Windows will have new glass and putty (hence needing the repaint).

I would be after two coats of exterior undercoat and 2 coats of gloss, and how long roughly would you expect it to take?

Scaffolding would be provided.

To give some background to this, I had my house re-rendered in the spring, and the muppets that did it managed to scratch nearly every piece of glass in the house (117 panes damaged) so I am currently chasing there insurance and the people who quoted to replace the glass said they don't paint them, so we would need to get that added on top. Hence the question, as its a massive job that I am not prepared to do myself, as I did it just before the renderers buggered it all up, and that involved taking all the frames back to the wood which took a while!

You repainted your window frames just before having the house re rendered 😐

If I was an insurance assessor, I might find that a bit strange 😉

Most of the windows were new (so primed) so I undercoated them, the rest had just been restored, so I had to scratch them back to wood and primed and undercoated them prior to the rendering.

I was told, that they were going to fully mask the windows; which they did at first but then they removed the masking as it got in the way........

The Windows are the least of the damage, 700 slate roof tiles which are covered in white stripes, drains blocked to the point they had to be dug out and fascias which went from black to black with white stripes due to being scoured.

Basically they got behind schedule and managed to knacker the house in about 3 days, the insurance assessor said he had never seen anything like it. Liability has never been a question, I just need to get prices...

The people who fixed the balls up (after I had to grind all the house back with a concrete grinder so it was reasonably straight and plumb) masked as they went so if they had done it in the first place it would have been ok 🙁

First coat was with a compressor and hopper (not that unusual apparently according a few specialists) subsequent coats was supposed to be by hand however they didn't so it went everywhere.

It wouldn't have been a problem if they hadn't taken off the masking, but they did and caused around 20K of damage in a few days.....

Its a long story and a very expensive one (and its still on going)

trebuchet would have made less mess 🙂

Are you a painter and decorator Tony? Also how long would you reckon it would take?

I understand this is a massive guesstimate btw.

i'd say two and half weeks labour plus materials - same price as watsontony - £2000

at a very rough guess of course
