Love the hat!
Ein Reich, Ein Volk...you know the rest. All a bit Hitler Youth-y, really.
And a lot of comparisons to this:
I prefer this song
You know something’s bad when even Mefty can only make a half-hearted defence.
To be fair to Mefty, I think pointing out the good intentions and source of the initiative was a very useful post. Thanks Mefty. That doesn't change the fact that it fails to recognise that Britain isn't England. Or that the song sounds like empty nationalism. All of which are understandable failings of a local grass roots initiative, but not one being promoted by a government department.
Luckily our kids are doing the Lion King at school this week - I can hear them belting that out in the playground, so this one britain cr@p won't get a chance!
I've contacted school just so they have evidence that parents don't support it (the one britain singalong, not the lion king!). Teachers and schools have been thrown on the trash heap before, during and after the pandemic - I can't see schools willingly supporting more political gesturing.
After this shocking year, effort does need to be put into rebuilding communities - but that can be grass roots led, it doesn't, and shouldn't, come from an agenda driven government.
I appreciate it doesn't actually come from the government though, and the origins are well intended, and it's probably media distorting it...but even so, government endorsement is going to damage the original intent.
It may be well intended but its utterly stupid and will cause a huge backlash - probably what the tories are counting on to make an enemy within

Free Memberit is sodding bonkers
who on earth do they think it will appeal to?
The Scots on twitter and /r/scotland certainly don't seem to happy about it, they think it's targetted at keeping them in the union.
My reading of it though is that actually it's meant to be helping ethnic minorities.
The guy who set up the charity is the founder of the British Indian association and if you read his bio, he did a bunch of outreach work as a police officer in Bradford.

One Britain, One Nation are backed by Tory MP's. Apparently there was a Labour MP as well but he got kicked out.
Mefty is also wrong about Scottish schools
Most are finishing this week, before Friday
(always used to annoy me that my cousins broke up for summer a month before us! ).

The fact that DFE didn't realise this is another gift to the SNP
And as well intentioned as it may be it seems creepy as fk to me
Do we get blohard riding a horse next?

It's a load of flag waving tosh for sure but if they wanted a song of national unity they could've just appropriated another one - I'm sure this would be fine...
Come the day and come the hour
Come the power and the glory
We have come to answer Our Country's call
From the four proud provinces of Britain
CHORUS
Britain, Britain Together standing tall
Shoulder to shoulder
We'll answer Britain's call
From the three proud provinces of Britain

Not just any flag shagging, but promoting under age flag shagging!
American schoolkids place their hands over their hearts when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. Is there a special salute that goes with this song? (I don't have kids so haven't received any directives.)

I shall be wearing my crass t shirt on Friday.

I have taught mine to use their 2 middle fingers...
It's been going since 2005... Mysteriously 2021 is the year when suddenly it gets the PM and department of education's support after being pushed by Esther Mcvey, after 15 years of getting all the attention it deserves.
will every school be given a copy of mein kampf to read also? after the king james bible of course 😂
Jeez, never heard of this before. I'm probably viewed as a xenophobic flag waving loon on here, and even I think this is the start of a very slippery slope.
One thing that concerns me is that whilst we are whinging about this and them privatizing Ch4...what are they actually up to...
will every school be given a copy of mein kampf to read also?
no, they will get boris johnson's fictional re-imagination of churchill's life story.

2 proud provinces.
Britain - E&W
Great Britain - E&W&S
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - E&W&S&NI
British Isles - geographical name for all the islands regardless of country.
So they're singing a song about England and Wales and even then only manage to get the national animal of England in the logo.

Publicising and lending support to a slightly naff idea from a group working in communities in Bradford??
The evil Machiavellian so and so's !!!!
I imagine most parents would go "FFS, not ANOTHER day", and hope the school doesn't bother
So they’re singing a song about England and Wales and even then only manage to get the national animal of England in the logo.
Education is devolved in Wales, isn't it? If so, this is just about England. It makes me so proud...
Now, where's my little red book?
It's a convenient peg on which to hang another pennant of the on-going culture war that the de Pfeffel derives so much benefit from. Appeals to the nationalistic sentiment of his base while it infuriates everyone else.
Classic divide and rule tactics.
Its 5 years today since the referendum result too....
If ever there was a time for a 'teacher training day'...
The sun on the meadow is summery warm.
The stag in the forest runs free.
But gather together to greet the storm.
Tomorrow belongs to me.
If ever there was a time for a ‘teacher training day’…
Or alternatively just ignore the "day"
It always strikes me as odd that teacher training days never coincide with closures for polling. And are always on a Monday or Friday....
Classic divide and rule tactics.
I think it's a naff idea but don't quite get the "divide and rule"? Unless you mean those with musical taste and those without?
(It is this Friday so Scottish schools will not have broken up.)
Except the ones that did last Friday. Thank **** that includes my daughter.

You'd be correct if the reference was to Great Britain but the British Isles includes the island of Ireland (although the Republic contest that).
Load of old bollocks anyway. Nationalistic nonsense.
Except the ones that did last Friday. Thank **** that includes my daughter.
looks like theyve almost all broken up by this friday
I wouldnt expect mefty to know the scottish term dates
But youd really expect the Department for Education to have some sort of a clue
Is there a special salute that goes with this song? (I don’t have kids so haven’t received any directives.)

Peace to all worlds!
Can't we just repurpose some boring old hymns?
Stand up, stand up for Boris
The woke-left will be cross
Pile high the covid bodies
He doesn't give a toss.

Great Britain – E&W&S

Surely Britain would be the historically British areas of the UK - southern Scotland, Wales and a couple of bits of northern England (but not most of England)?
I think it’s a naff idea but don’t quite get the “divide and rule”?
Antiwoke Britler Youth vs Unpatriotic Communist Wokie ‘culture-war’ pantomime innit? It’s the one post-Brexit clickbait gravy-train that will keep on rolling.
Most edifying:
More edifying still if you read the comments:
Two important points that should be noted:
1) Britian is only "great" because for hundreds of years we basically press-ganged an Army and Navy together, and set off round the world in an orgy of murder, rape and pillage, and basically invaded other countries against their will and stole all their stuff. (go have a look in the "British" museum if you don't believe me)
2) Mass singing is an absolute indicator that those people who are singing are helpless and doomed. Sat on the Titanic, in the middle of the cold atlantic, waiting to die, no hope of rescue, yup, lets have a sing along to pass the time till we all die slow horrible inevitable deaths. Same for the Blitz. Waiting for a bomb to land on your head, nothing you can do about it? yup, a quick sing song will pass the time till all your internal organs are burst and plastered around and made external by the shock wave of a 1,000 pounder going off close by.
If you have any actual power as a member of public when it matters, don't blinking well sing, get up and out and sort your self out
😉
The best thing about this is that if the religious nutjob that is my son's head teacher (my son is 10) insists on doing this too, then he will instinctively do the opposite (whatever that is). The best thing is that he's developed this healthy disdain for ideologues without any help from me.
When I told him the previous (temporary) head teacher (who he really liked) was also very Christian he said "I know, but he never went on about it all the time". Hopefully he's learning that the more desperate people are to force ideologies on you then the more he is better ignoring them.
My daughter (13) is a bit more conformist (and anything for a quiet life), so she may well just sing along thinking "this is a bit weird/naff".
The more desperate people are to 'belong' the more stupid they make themselves look. Great, isn't it!
BTW it's no coincidence that the most popular mass singing events occur at religious meetings, where oppressed and helpless people try to make themselves feel better by "bigging up" in song some completely arbitrary and entirely made-up god in the vain hope that there lives might get a bit better (rather than actually doing something that might actually achieve that effect)
And of course the religious leaders make a tidy packet out of their sheep, er, sorry, i mean, flock don't they.......
It's just been part of the headlines on R4 PM and will be covered in the programme.
No doubt that will enhance it's legitimacy/relevance in the eyes of the flag shaggers.
It's nationalistic bollocks.

Yes but we aren't allowed to say that because the gammons get angry.
Re divide and rule it is relevant in that they are deliberately stoking a contrived 'woke' vs 'anti-woke' to appeal to their base and keep everyone distracted from them enriching their friends and turning the country into a one-party oligarchy.
I think it is more normally used in the context of say, the empire, when we would deliberately stoke conflict between rival factions to keep them from fighting us instead, so sort of relevant - it's the same kind of perpetrators anyway.
