If you could choose one album from every decade from 60s to the teens. What would it be?

80;s

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

90's

Nirvana Nevermind

2000's

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

This Decade? Hard to say, probably not the best but struck a chord (intended) with me

Bowie - Dark Star

Can't really go back much earlier as too young

Can't do it. Too many to choose from

Can’t really go back much earlier as too young

You've heard no albums from the 60s and 70s?? There's a hell of a lot of good stuff you've missed then! Like, Hendrix, the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Can, Sex Pistols, Velvet Underground, Stooges, Iggy, Talking Heads...etc etc... I suggest you do some listening young man! 😀

60`s - Something by the Beatles (before I was born)

70`s - Dark Side Of The Moon

80`s - Joshua Tree

90`s - Definitely Maybe

00s - Bring It On (released in the 90s, but I didn't start listening to it until the 00s, cheating I know, but the 90s were crammed full of great albums)

Nothing of any note since then.

60's - Velvet Underground and Nico

90's - Different Class

00's - American Idiot

10's - Too soon to tell......

Can't do but I can say Van Morrison's 10 albums from 68-1978 are unparalleled in terms of sustained artistic achievement in pop music.

Fixed and very much agree handybar.  Know he's very much an acquired taste but people don't realise what a terrific songwriter he is.

Edit: would also include Them in that category cos that's where it all started.

Seeing as I started this, I think I've got my list together. It's flipping hard though.

60s - are you experienced

70s - led zep IV

80s - hup

90s - his n hers

00s - funeral

10s - royal blood

first and last one most difficult. First because it's not a decade I've got many albums from. Last for the same reason.

My choices are based on what could always get put on the stereo and I still listen to.

90's The Second Coming

00's  18

10's  What the hammer! (but then I'm biased on this one....)

Bloody difficult to choose from later decades, some will be like sticking a pin in a list, but could change just as easily. So, here goes:

60’s   King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King

70’s   Talking Heads - 77

80’s   Paul Simon - Hearts and Bones

90’s   Portishead - Dummy

20’s.  Arcade Fire - Funeral

A lot I cannot argue with there - here goes...

60's Disraeli Gears (Cream)

70's Lamb lies down on Broadway (Genesis)

80's Script of the Bridge (Chameleons)

90's Ladies and Gentleman we are floating in Space (Spiritualized)

2010s Happy Songs for Happy People (Mogwai)

2020'2 Trouble will find me (the National)

Ask again tomorrow and they'll have changed!

60s: no idea

70s: Land Speed Record (actually an 80s album but they formed in 79 and it’s my list so my rules!)

80s: Stone Roses

90s: Cooper Blue, no! The Charltans, no! Screamadelica, no! Hmm...this could go on and on. 90s were too good to me.

00s: Hot Fuss (the rest of their stuff is shit though)

10s: Silver Age.

Let it Bleed - the Stones

Southern Harmony - The Black Crowes

White Blood Cells - The White Stripes

Sometimes I sit and think - Courtney Barnett.

But at least four of those could change daily.

As has been said, it's an impossible task so have added rules to help me pare it down.

1.  Must be albums I've played (and continue to play)  to death yet seem to refuse to die.

2.  Artists must all begin with a random letter.  So the letter 'M'

60s MC5 -Kick Out The Jams
70s Miles Davis - Dark Magus Live at Carnegie Hall
80s Matt Johnson - Burning Blue Soul
90s Make-Up - In Mass Mind
2ks Magma - Trilogie au Trianon
210s Moses Gun Collective - Mercy Mountain

Well having thought about it, my rule is albums which knocked my socks off when they came out and which I continue to play (some more than others).

60s Pink Floyd - Ummagumma
70s Yes - Yes Album
80s Frank Zappa - Them or Us
90s Richard Thompson - Mirror Blue
00s Grinderman - Grinderman
10s New Noise - Frozen River Flows

Though it's hard not to mention The Beatles or Led Zeppelin or listing Zappa's entire output.

60's ..King Crimson " In The Court Of The Crimson King "

70's ( this was the hard decade for me !) ..

Free...The Free Story ..yeah I know it's a g.hits but works so well as a standalone ..

80's ..( my least favourite decade ) ..

Aerosmith .."Pump."

90's

Smashing Pumpkins .." Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness"

00's

Gazpacho..." Night "

Teens ..

Afghan Whigs .." In Spades "

Maybe I've forgotten something but these would be pretty close to the top of any list ..

Ah Wishbone Ash. Live Dates is brilliant. Reminds of seeing them at the Kursaal in Southend. Oh and at the Buxton Pop Festival on High Edge which was a tad colder.

Parallel Lines up there too. Good call. Or how about The Pretenders?

Another slightly off the wall choice for me would be The Groundhogs - Split.

Must be albums I’ve played (and continue to play) to death yet seem to refuse to die.

My basic criteria, I chose only albums that I’d listened to and actually owned and continue to play on a regular basis. King Crimson I borrowed from a mate at school, it made a huge impression on me, changed my entire musical outlook forever. It was a while before I bought a copy, however, I just didn’t have the money to buy albums at that time.

Lots of great selections, many took me a while to come to appreciate, though.
