Inspired by sitting down to watch a bit of the original black and white Avengers (Diana Rigg era) I realised there is a lot of old telly I still like.

From the 20th Century what would you still go "Oh good ******** is on. I'll watch that"

Max of 3 to leave some for others, mine

Avengers (black and white years for preference)
M*A*S*H
Allo allo

Edit technically I don't think mash is inexplicable. The other two however...

All the kids stuff (as above not unexplainable)

Captain Scarlet
Thunderbirds
etc

Zoro was on yesterday (dubbed into French) got me thinking about Champion the Wonder Horse and Rawhide. Happy days.

MASH was spectacularly good tv

Because it's being shown on ITV4 before the TdF I've seen some episodes of the Saint in the last couple of weeks. It's absolutely awful. Mind you, I thought that when it was new too.

I challenge anyone of a certain age to watch The Sweeney without saying 'Ooh, look at that car!', Cortina Mk1, Capri, Transit, even a Chopper...

I leave the TV on for the dog* when we go out and often leave it on Gold, I've found myself watching old episodes of Last of the summer wine when I get home a few times!

*I know its bloody soppy!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Smiley's People - some of the best TV ever made.

MASH is great too.

Bullseye. Nice northerners, easy questions and a genius format.

Taggart. Its awful but once I chance across it I can't look away. It so fantastically lazily made I find it hysterical.

I quite like the game of seeing how close they can get all the cast to stand together so they can do everything in one shot rather than shooting reverses - then see how many people they can cram into one shot - even if it means they're speaking to the back of each others heads.

I think peak Taggart was an episode with a car chance (a van chase actually) where the good guy and the bad guy were driving vehicles that were the same make, model and colour so you had absolutely no idea what was going one.

Quincy. Although he does seem to shout a lot.
MASH doesn't count in this thread as you say 'inexplicably' watchable. It's brilliant so obviously it's watchable.

The Sweeney is always great, just looking at how much London has changed supplements good acting and stories.

I must have watched every episode of Frasier about 100 times.

How about The Secret Army - remember that ?

I wish they would repeat the original Poldark - for the laffs.

Paul youngs hooked on scotland. Reminds me of being a nice innocent 12 year old, only interested in chasing trout. ๐Ÿ˜€

Been doing a few long distance flights recently with Cathay and on my last one back from the UK had run out of any movie or comedy to watch so got into a whole season of the Sweeney, cracking entertainment, I had genuinely forgot how great this TV show was (A little before my time).

Another vote for bullseye. First series classic how did they get away with that? Like they dragged Jim Bowen out of the pub against his will. Later series still brilliant especially for the contestants with total lack of character or knowledge and the amazing aspirational eighties prizes. Oh, and the hand and taches....

Same here but not inexplicable. I think it's one of the best sit-coms ever.

Reggie Perrin, recently revisited the lot after stumbling into the first episode by accident.

Gameshows has to be 3-2-1, draws you in with impossible questions by awful celebrities and then to top that rubbish 80s prizes.

to top that rubbish 80s prizes.

The episode where they inadvertently win a Conservatory then reveal they live in a 3rd floor flat is a classic

I'm convinced that they had multiple answers for each question. Never trusted that Ted Rogers, he looked like a used car salesman.

I go through cycles of mostly old stuff. Barely watch new stuff. Nostalgic TV, or just a case of watching stuff I'm familiar with, enjoy and isn't shit.

Though Gold have kind of ruined Fawlty Towers, Porridge and Only Fools. That's all they show, endlessly.

My usual stuff though...

Any Doctor Who, classic stuff especially.
A run through seasons of Star Trek (anything, except Enterprise)
Blackadder I can watch over and over
Red Dwarf likewise.
Father Ted

Got me HD Blu Rays of Robin of Sherwood now.

Only new stuff to watch is Game of Thrones and to be honest I've got a bit bored of it and can't be bothered to watch the last season.

Queued up on my NAS to watch. Even has the ones they never showed in UK but got the original Brit dubbing artists to do the voices years later.

Interested in seeing them in original Japanese but I suspect it just won't have the same charm (and normally I'm not a fan of dubbing).

Knight Rider - the jacket, the jeans, the car!

I love everything about Quincy. My little brother's an Ironside man. It's like sharks and jets.

Pretty much all 80s kids TV watched with an adult eye is amazing.

Just shows its greatness- 30 years later and Michael Bay spends hundreds of millions of dollars to achieve the same.

Arguably 'well written' doesn't make them 'inexplicably watchable'. ๐Ÿ˜‰
