So this mornings comment was in no way tongue in cheek. I like Trump. Much of the stuff that's parroted about him and things he is supposed to have said don't actually stand up under any sort of scrutiny.
Yes he has made lots of comments I really don't agree with, yes he is in many ways a proper bastard and yes I am both white and straight (whoever asked).
However for so many to lie so utterly and completely about his stance makes me think he's scaring people I dislike more and that's always a plus.
America's foreign policy has been a disaster and Trump does seem at least aware of that, what they get up to at home ...meh..
Drumpf befouls the airwaves with xenophobia that was once the sole preserve of fringe politics and has drawn it into mainstream discussion.
Depends on your definition of 'mainstream discussion'. Either the kind that happens on CBS or the kind that happens among the population at large. The worrying thing is that xenophobia seems to be well-entrenched with the majority of GOP voters and quite possible a majority of voters generally. If that isn't reflected in mainstream media, then arguably, it is mainstream media that at odds with this truth.
It is starting to look like Drumpf represents a larger chunk of people than just 'the fringe'. Hopefully not.
Either way, I wish the Democrats had a more inspiring candidate.

Like what?

Bernie Sanders! It's a shame he's not going to quite get over the line. I stay out of political discussion here as I'm just a visitor, albeit a long term one.
I heard someone say "Bernie Sanders, he want's to turn us in to Cuba or something" I had to counter with "Or Norway".
I really like this place, but some things are totally f%$ked. It feels like there are extremely powerful forces that back the status quo of steady widening of inequality.
Meanwhile any suggestion of change is met with fear or hopelessness.
Like what?
Like he never actually said that 'all Mexicans were rapists' and he never actually said 'we should ban all Muslisms from entering the country'.
Like Noltae said, much of what the left wing/liberal media reports is a contrivance or misrepresentation of the facts to suit their's and others' agendas and world view.
I don't think he would be a good president, I don't think he's credible, and think he's poorly spoken and somewhat ignorant. I don't think he's quite the ogre that a lot of (themselves ignorant) people would have you believe.
You only need to last for about 20 seconds to hear him say ban all Muslims
total and complete shutdown...from entering
If that is not a ban then I dont know what it is.
Not followed thread at all so if out of context forgive me but he was not misquoted
No chance of trump getting in. They're both Rothschild babies. But Hilary is the preferred option, land of the free? Haha
In fairness half the crap he's come out with would never get past the legislature but he's ridden a wave of hate and fear, hell go all nicey nicey economic liberal now to gain some centre votes but he's a man bereft of any principal that doesn't start and end with his self.
Of heck - Hillary is almost a shoe in now!!!
he never actually said that 'all Mexicans were rapists'
Not "all", just the ones entering the US:
Not "all", just the ones entering the US:
Yes, exactly. So not at all what was reported.
Like I said, I don't like him, I think he'd make a terrible president, I think he's ill spoken and unsophisticated. But he's not what the liberal media claim him to be.
My point is that you cannot call someone out for being ignorant by also being ignorant yourself. That just makes you a hypocrite.
But he's not what the liberal media claim him to be.
I'll think you'll find it's not just the liberal media who disapprove.
Yes, exactly. So not at all what was reported.
Have we got a credible link for a report that Trump said that all Mexicans are rapists?
Look, he said what he said to whip up controversy, especially from the, for want of a better word, I'll use yours, "liberal" media, so he can then say "hey look everybody, the liberals are misquoting me, they're twisting my words, whereas, look at me, I'm a stand up guy. Some of my best friends are Mexicans. My businesses couldn't survive without them."*
*not a quote.
He's clearly not ignorant. He does however say ignorant things for an ignorant audience.
I'll think you'll find it's not just the liberal media who disapprove.
No and rightly so. As I said, I am not making the argument that he's likable or even credibly. He's making arguments to appeal to a numnber of political spectrums not all of which are people I'd ever want to have to dinner let alone vote for.
I feel sure that he will split the republican vote and help Clinton into office. If it happens it will be ridiculous
I think it's a pretty subtle distinction between someone who is actually xenophobic and someone who isn't but is prepared to say xenophobic things and suggest xenophobic policies to win votes.
If anything I'd say the latter is worse, because at least the former is honest.
Someone like, say...Zac Goldsmith? ๐
So not at all what was reported.
Any chance of you covering the Muslims "lie" now as that was reported accurately

I like Trump seems to be pretty straightforward and no worse than any of the others, I don't see the big deal..Oh dear
I think the problem there is there's no emoji for tongue-in-cheek... ๐
The exact same sentiment as Louis Farrakhan from the Nation of Islam -Another nutjob.
So it's Clinton, Trump and maybe Sanders.
Clinton appears to be a liar very much out for herself first and her countrymen second, she flip flops more than any of the candidates and is in a bit of trouble re her email accounts a great way to start your term.
Bernie is a lovely bloke no doubt, he makes the most sense in many ways however this is America and unfortunately the self described socialist just can't get past the lack of empathy for others that much of America seems to have. They don't seem ready to move to our kind of socialism, he'd be taken to the cleaners on Capitol Hill. I fear he lacks the wherewithal to actually beat Clinton but may do enough damage to her to open the door for-
Thedonald - So he's mad as a box of hammers, loudmouthed and odious however could he actually make what he wants to happen, happen? I doubt it, he'd need support & budget he does not have, maybe trump would be the first single term president in a while and in the meantime the demmycrats can find a better option than Clinton for the next election. Trump might actually be the less awful option for the short term.
Clinton is no more up to the job than Trump but she'd do more damage in office than Donald.
So on Balance I like Trump for president best of a bad choice for now.
someone who is actually xenophobic and someone who isn't but is prepared to say xenophobic things and suggest xenophobic policies to win votes.
Given enough time, those two people become indistinguishable
