Porridge oats that is. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My favourite used to be Sainsbury's Organic until every other mouthful had a minimum of one husk in it. ๐Ÿ™

Humph! Changed to Jordan's Organic, these are chewy jumbo ones, and once again we have the husk problem.

Does anyone else find this?

So ... what oats for C_G?

As always, thank you so much. ๐Ÿ™‚

No. We just buy Tescos own brand, the cheapest there is, and they're fine. ๐Ÿ™‚

I use jumbo oats from my old local health food store, so no worries here, (even though I am now 180 miles away, I have friends bring then down with them, as well as their spelt pasta)

But does anyone else find their preferred oats consist of husks? They're horrible things and my spittoon is becoming rather full. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I'm eating the Sainsburys organic ones...no husk problems, but I do cook them for 5-10mins on the hob. Are you microwaving?

Waitrose four-grain ones are okay when you fancy a change. I generally use Jordan's posh (but not organic).

Has 'nom' been mentioned yet? ๐Ÿ˜›

A couple of years ago I carried out some fairly comprehensive testing and Sainsbury's were the nicest.

But this is intriguing as you are all saying there is no husks in your non-organic ones. That settles it, I'm done with organic!

Drac - I may ride bikes but I do endeavour to eat in a ladylike manner. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tesco value oats - how can you tell the difference with posher oats, they are just a bad of dusty rolled oats ...

weird, also not aware of finding any husks in them either.

Spoonful of peanut butter then slice bananas over the top when hot
This thread needed a recipe at lest!

Cooked in the microwave, how lazy am I? Any recommendations from the Scots on here?

As for Frosties or Coco-Pops - no no no. Sugar rush then hungry half hour later!

Porridge (made with water) and a dash of maple syrup. 8)

Ahhh CG according to my '30s cookbook that is gruel (think Oliver!)
as porridge has milk in it I go 50-50 water and skim milk
plus 5 turns of the salt grinder.

scots do an 'old fashioned' variety in our local morrisons (tesco doe'snt do them) that are the larger more chewy oats, no husks ever, really lovely. far nicer than standard mushy oats. i'm a total convert.

cinnamon_girl after your recommendation (a couple of years ago now) I changed to the Sainsbury's. You were right, they are the best. However I've not come a cross these husks that you talk about, well not yet anyway.

The best porridge I ever had was from the chap that runs the 'Carrbridge hostel'. He won porridge making champion 2009, the way he used that spurtle had to be see to be believed ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference - I do it Swiss Bircher stylee, soak overnight in apple juice until creamy, then add blackberries or raspberries and natural low fat yoghurt. Beautiful.

If I fancy something warm then porridge slowly heated with a smoothed banana, no sugar needed. The slower the creamier I find.

My recipe is:

I mix 50% 'premium' rolled oats with 50% 'cheap crap' chopped oats when I'm making flapjacks. The former gives texture and the latter binds it all together nicely.

I know not of this 'porridge' of which you speak, I'm allergic to breakfast.
