I had to laugh when I read it was an expired SSL cert, somebody's going to be in trouble. They have my sympathy though, I used to be responsible for renewing certs across quite a few clients myself and it's a PITA

From what I read it was some Ericsson network equipment rather than O2 themselves that had the fault:

Funny reading the O2 twitter feed (on WiFi) - all the entitled-ones demanding compensation, as well as claiming that their lives have been endangered, businesses ruined. The only person with less clue about Plan B must be Theresa May.
