I think the point of the shockz ones is that you can also be aware of what's around you as well as some tunes

that episode might be the best single episode of television I've ever seen. It's a symphony.

Thats the perfect way of putting it arrpee

It’s an absolute masterpiece. I think it has such massive impact because they talk about the chaos of life with their mother, but it’s the first time you see it and it couldn’t possibly be more intense. Jamie Lee Curtis is phenomenal!

Yep, so much of what we'd seen of those characters suddenly clicking into place, perfectly explained by that one illustration.

Also a great example of "show, don't tell".

Dizzying, hilarious and horrifying.

Generally don't care about presents, but my brother got me the same Jake Thackeray biography he got me 2 years ago 🙄

Is it the same one you gave him last year? 🙂

Shokz are bone conduction so hearing is not affected. I don’t wear my AirPods when riding for that very reason.

As for the donkey sanctuary, you really have to have a bench! There are so many, my kids used to make their way round the memorial field without touching ground. It’s a bit of a standing joke in our family (we’re local to the sanctuary).

On "crap presents,"

The Girl (27) got this year, from her largely absent father, a box of teabags (and not as a joke present).  She doesn't drink tea or coffee.  OK, he got her a voucher for a tattoo also which was well received, but WTAF?

I got a tea sampler box from my partner, but a selection box of proper tea was something I'd asked for.  It was an assorted pack of whole leaf such as what you lot might call 'artisan,' not a box of Twinings from the supermarket.

Got a Bosch multi-tool but needed to use it before Christmas as I was refurbishing daughters bedroom. Handy for cutting out door frames for hinge fitting.

Only crap ones were from both SIL's. Showergel gift packs.  I'm a soap and shampoo person.  At least it wasnt a singing mug or a random bottle of mango hot sauce (both were binned immediately). Offered the sauce to my other BIL as he is into various sauces, but he wouldnt touch it.

Daughter did get me two bars of shampoo and soap, very handy for camping and bike packing.

maybe we were expecting too much from it after that build up, but we've binge watched (and enjoyed) the show from the start just so we could see what this episode was all about, but both me and the wife were bored with it.

yes i get what it was trying to do, but it was just 60 minutes of 'fk you, no fk you you mother****g jagoff, fk you, no fk you jagoff' (yawwwwn)

the first 40 minutes were really boring, it was only the last 20 minutes when theyd sat at the table that we appreciated the tension of it all, that was very good.

ah well, horses for courses and all that.  we'll continue with it because we're enjoying it, and i get why that episode was put in there, but we were just willing it to finish to we could crack on with the rest of it. sorry (not sorry) but thanks for the recommendation, we'd never heard of this show before and its another good binge watch 🙂

Turns out (adult) kids are the only ones who understand how Christmas lists are meant to work. Eldest got me the radio alarm clock I wanted, youngest got me the Yeti travel cup I asked for, and in a sensible colour as well.

MrsMC got me tickets to Peter Kay on his charity tour, which I wasn't expecting and I'm keen to see what he's like. Then she made a big fuss about not being bothered if I wanted to take someone else to see him instead of her. Tempted to ask one of the younger attractive girls from work, see how she feels then!

Back at work now so can reflect a bit on what has turned out to be the nicest Christmas break in a few years.

Five and a half days off which is rare - even rarer is being able to have the days without even thinking of work. Spent Christmas day at the greyhound sanctuary helping with walking/feeding/cleaning/fussing the hounds. Didn't get back home until late afternoon and Christmas dinner was leftover cottage pie with a glass or two of stout.

Back at the sanctuary for the Boxing Day walk, walked one of the kennel hounds then helped out with the bbq, refreshments and then putting all the stuff away again. Reserved a greyhound for adoption 🙂

Couple of quiet days with Sunday being the day we cooked our 'Christmas' dinner. It was nearly ruined as the top oven had gone out at some point and we only noticed when doing the 30 minute check on the roasties. Saved it. Had some wine.

Then did an actual festive meetup with some friends who are basically the family we choose rather than the ones we are related to. Lovely afternoon with sausage cobs, banter and dogs. Then came home and watched John Wick 4
