Surely itโ€™s โ€œNationalist Nicola Nickedโ€.

Discussions on whether the Scottish National Party are nationalists for another time.

Yeah well this is all just unionist media making a big deal out of some minor bookkeeping oversights...

Of course, maybe it is a total fitup by bent Police Scotland - in which case Our Nicola will regret not addressing the total shitshow inside the police force after a black man was choked to death in the street by its officers. Instead it got sidelined.

The money was just resting in the SNP account. Bit of a mixed week for Nicola then. Passed her theory driving test but got the jail.

I await the "Left wing Blob take down another another Brexiter, it's a kangaroo Court/sad day for democracy" comments from the usualย  commentators on Twitter etc etc. That's how it works, right?

Clearly something has to be done about law enforcement and their incredible bias against republicans and unionists, Brexiteers and Bremainers.

Seems entirely unexpected TBH, wait and see would be my suggestion.

Though in the case of bias it is undeniable that whilst people have been arrested over this, in Westminster...

Not unexpected.ย  The glee some of you show is rather unseemly.ย  I am just surprised it took this long to interview under caution which is all this is really

I still bet yo all no individual gets any criminal sanction

Is thisโ€ฆOops or just routine investigatory process?

Just the latter.

โ€œThe matter is active for the purposes of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 and the public are therefore advised to exercise caution if discussing it on social media.

TJ - no glee, in fact sheโ€™s one of my dadโ€™s old students said some nice things about him when he died.

I just like a ridiculous alliterative headline. ย The headlines in the alliterative press (think red top) are so rarely true anyway. The alliteration is the art.

Nah, doesn't matter whether they're SNP, Tory or Labour Green or anything else, dodgy thieving politicians should be in the public stocks and pelted with rotten fruit "pour encourager les autres"ย  Very few things worse IMO.

Of course.ย  thing is there ins nothing in the public domain that gives the slightest hint of personal enrichment here at all.

I still bet no individual is charged let alone convicted of anything here.

Police Scotland must not only be rigorous but seen to be so and Police Scotland no longer invite folk to the station for an interview under caution - its nowadays always done under arrest.ย  I am suprised its been this long to interview her.

This is, to use a technical term, absolute bollocks.

Of course we all get arrested and interviewed under caution if weโ€™ve fiddled expenses and claimed an extra Greggs meal deal we shouldnโ€™t have.

Iโ€™m not sure why the police are involved to be honest - if SNP members have had their snouts in their own trough itโ€™s up to them to sort out.

Go on politecamera action.ย  why is this bollocks?ย  As far as I can tell its the norm now.ย  It used to be you were invited to the police station to be interviewed under caution but this creates a fake idea its voluntary when of course if you refuse you get arrested and also causes confusion if they do not tell you you are a suspect.ย  Cases have been thrown out because of thisย  so nowadays its always an artrest if they want to interview under caution.ย  Standard practice in Scotland

Because the money wasn'tย  donated to the SNP it was donated to a separate fund for the expenses on an upcoming indyref. It wasn't just SNP members that donated. There has been no indyref but the cash is nowhere to be seen.

Its clear it needs a thorough investigation.ย  Police Scotland can do nothing else or they would be seen as being soft on the SNP.ย  anyone who may become a suspect at any point MUST be arrested to make their status as a suspect clear to all parties.

To me the only surprise here is the delay between the other arrests and this one

Conservative central office must be overjoyed.

Dear BBC, please make sure you run as much as possible of Nicola Sturgeon's arrest and as little as possible of Boris being a lying little sleazeball.

Or we could have another little debate about the licence fee....

Thanks awfully.

Your owners.

Sure, I'm reasonably sure that Sturgeon hasn't benefited from this personally in the form of cash in the bank or anything so grubby, but if she's "allowed/ turned a blind eye" to illegality it doesn't really matter. It's still dodginess. It's not the value necessarily, it's the act.

Itโ€™s not the value necessarily, itโ€™s the act.

You have to hope so - as the investigation must have cost way more than the ยฃ600K by now.

Got to confess, it's unsettling. It feels dodgy as **** having the leader of our nation just a few short weeks ago arrested (like in a Trump/Jonstain nightmare parallel universe). But as said without a personal gain element it feels more grossly incompetent than at the thieving scum end of the market. I just hope at the end there is a clear, believable and independent narrative of exactly what happened then we can all make a proper independent judgement about if we want the SNP near power before the next set of elections.

Of course this is all being played out to the backdrop allegations of mates of ministers becoming extremely personally wealthy on the back of covid. That all may well turn out to be true but legal - but morally possibly worse. We'll see.

Conservative central office must be overjoyed.

Short term maybe - long term a discredited SNP will lead to a huge number of extra labour seats at the next general election and just a few crumbs for the tories. A dead in the water SNP will effectively kill off the conservatives for a couple of election cycles. If I was a Scottish lib dem leader right now I might be dusting off my U turn speech on independence ready for a fire sale of free roaming voters looking for a berth.

Possible I guess but unlikely.ย  My guess is that they are not actually finding any evidence of criminality.ย  Certainly nothing that can be pinned on one person

Beattie and Murrel look far closer to the mess from what I know although her protestations of not knowing anything seems a little thin

Well we are getting a very thorough police investigation so that should happen tho if there are no criminal charges as I believe likely how much of the police investigation will/can be made public?

๐Ÿ™‚

Of course she was released without charge.ย  Its just evidence gathering.ย  Now the cops need to decide 1) do they have enough evidence to charge anyone 2) do they need to investigate further? 3) has the investigation reached a dead end?

Why do you need to arrest someone in these circumstances? Canโ€™t you just ask them to attend the station for an interview at x time on y date, and then go after them if they donโ€™t turn up?

"The woman was questioned by Police Scotland detectives after she was arrested at 10.09am. She was released from custody at 5.24pm.

What a waste of a Sunday.

At least have the decency to arrest her on a Monday so she can have a day off work.

Flaperon - look at my link above.ย  Cases have been thrown out of court for someone being "interviewed under caution" but later charged as they did not realise they were a suspect ( or claimed that).ย  Its been standard practice in Scotland for a good few years that anyone who might become a suspect at any point or who they want to interview under caution is arrested, interviewed under caution and then de-arrested or charged.ย  The "arrest" is procedural. What you describe has not been standard practice in Scotland for a good few yearsย  With this being such a high profile case the cops will be being extra careful not to make any procedural cockups

good point Gordimhor

Iโ€™ll reserve judgment until sheโ€™s found guilty of anything

not a massive fan of the SNP but quite liked Nicola for some strange reason. Somebody in the SNP has been up to no good I suspect, but hope itโ€™s not her

Aye - there is clearly something very dodgy been happening with SNP finances.ย  a police investigation is completely appropriate.
