We are still looking at Wiltshire but herself suggested maybe renting in Wales for a few months and seeing what we think of that neck of the woods. We both like the idea of living there, what with all the proper hills and such like, but it feels somewhat far away. Any suggestions for towns and villages with a good community feel over the river, around Chepstow perhaps?

Outskirts of Cardiff ... but depends how close you want to be to Chepstow? there must be loads, just don't go to Newport.

Try Abergavenny, Crickhowell nice, maybe not too cheap.

Brecon's quite nice to but possibly further from civilisation than you want
