Yep, my auntie had a house on the main road past the shipyard almost opposite the gate. The hooter was a feature of summers up there for me....my great uncle was a foreman in SH, when he got dementia in later life he used to get out of the house and turn up there for his shift, his 'awld lads' would phone my auntie up and tell him 'Walter's clocking in again' and sit with him until she could get dressed and get there.
I've still got a cousin still there but there was a family falling out - terrible thing but my mum and aunt are both quite unforgiving people; they missed his daughter's christening because my Grandad was on his last in his hospice and they stayed with him (the rest of us went, indeed I'm Godfather) but as it happened Grandad hung on for another couple of days. My cousin's wife said some terrible things about Grandad not even knowing if they were there or not and that was that. 10 cross words and 20 years of separation.....and I had to choose sides.
That's quite cathartic......right, time's past and I'm still in contact with them by social media, still send christmas cards, etc. Next time I'm anywhere near I'm going to see them, we were very close as kids.
