We have flights booked to NYC in April and now looking for a decent hotel.
I've done a search on here and the only thread that came up is 9 years old.
It's just me and The Best Beloved and we'll be staying for 4 nights and want to be on Manhattan, ideally Mid-town down to SoHo.
Budget is about £1,200 - £1,500.
I'm going daft reading all the reviews on-line so looking for some first-hand recommendations.
What have you got?
Don't do what we did and stay right on Madison Square Garden - the hotel itself was huge and very average, but what really put me off was stepping out the front door into full-on touristy NYC (and I appreciate that we were part of that!) So basically I'd avoid anywhere within 9th / 23rd / Park Av. / 53rd. Roughly.
If I went back I'd either go to Harlem or Chelsea Market / Greenwich, at a guess. Probably the latter.
Second vote for Greenwich/West village
Only one I’ve got experience of was the Hilton Midtown. Very convenient for Central Park. Nice view from a high floor. Typical upper end Hilton hotel otherwise and I’d use it again.
No idea what the price was though, I used points.

Likewise, we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria on points, seemed to recall is was fine.
We stayed at The Peninsula just off fifth avenue. It was perfect.

Top tip: ask for high floor
we were on 38th floor and had excellent view of empire state building. Upon looking out window Mrs b commented "thought the empire state would be taller" I pointed out we are 38 floors up.
Doesn’t fit the criteria, bit figured I’d add a curveball just in case. We last stayed in the Wyth hotel in Brooklyn. The view over to Manhattan is quite something and you just jump on the Subway to get there (or walk over the bridge of course)
Mrs Kilo use the Sonder when there for business trips, I think there’s a few of them.
We stayed at Beacon hotel, on Broadway, upper West side. It's above the beacon theatre. They have good gigs on there, Johnny Marr a few days before we arrived and Tom petty (not for me) whilst we were there.
Short walk to central park, close to natural history museum.
It looks a bit out the way, but there's plenty bars, diners, cafes for breakfast etc. And once you get the hang of the subway, where you are is pretty much irrelevant.
Arlo Soho or Sixty Soho if either are in budget. Soho Grand too is fabulous and can occasionally land on a deal so worth checking.
Also been recommended the ModernHaus Soho too, not stopped but looks very nice and good location.
Happy to provide recommendations for food too, eaten a lot of places in Manhattan so have a fair idea based on budget.
One thing I’d add, a good view from the hotel room is nice but bear in mind you’ll be spending almost no time sat staring out of the window. Better to have a decent roof top hotel bar with views. Sixty Soho wins on this account.
I'd ask for the Sid & Nancy room at the Chelsea on West 23rd and 7th.
We stayed in the Lotte New York Palace on Maddison just opposite St Patrick’s Cathedral. Lovely place, great location.
We stayed at Easter and came back to find the staff had scattered lots of mini Easter eggs on the bed with a Lindt chocolate bunny on each pillow. Very nice touch.

Was chatting to friends last night who were there for New Year and they recommended the NH Collection hotel. Had a look and got a good price for a Junior Suite so have booked it.
