What are the good folk of STW forum up to for NYE? I have a feeling there will be quite a few who say "nothing" but there will also be those planning something a bit unusual. Let's hear from those folk, it may inspire the nothing people. I could certainly do with inspiration.

Just at home, will probably try to get the neighbours around. Won't be a big one though as I have my family coming on NYD so I will be up early pottering in the kitchen.

Going to a house party, first time in some years.

Mixed feelings as it'll make a nice change, but I'd been enjoying a sober ride on NYD morning in recent years.

No idea yet, dog is deathly scared of fireworks and obviously taxi's are an issue with a dog so means one of us can't have a drink, feel bad leaving her at home on her own, feel bad going somewhere where she's going to be petrified of the fireworks too. Past few NYE's have been spent with a few drinks, a takeaway and a film then bed at 9pm.

Can tell the mrs's is getting sick of that especially now shes in a job where shes usually not working on NYE or new years day so we're not sure what's what yet, we do have some sedative left over from bonfire night for the pup but it wears off after a couple of hours, we have talked about just going out locally in the village which usually has a big celebration in the square at 12pm and just popping back to sedate the pupper at 11pm then heading out again, we will see.

The worst thing is our dog used to be fine with fireworks until a neighbour let off a f***ing massive public display level loud one out of the blue one night whilst the dog was out for a wee, she's been petrified ever since.

Visiting friends for a couple of days. They'll have other friends round for Hogmanay too so I'll put on my sociable head and we'll make a wee night of it. Likely asleep by 1am as we've a sea dip planned for Ne'er day morning.

Hired out the village hall, we're doing a BYBooze and food, I'll be spinning some an eclectic mix of various NOW albums on the wheels of steel, rules state we must be out by 00:00hrs.

I'm not sure we've thought this through...

Morning bike ride (like the 'dog above, I always try to ride on the last day and then on the first - my only silly supersititious affectation).

Then planning to take Doug to the coast for a walk (usually do this New year's Day but it's always heaving and the traffic majorly sucks, so trying NYE this year). Fish and Chip supper.

We're both anti-social (at least when it comes to overly busy, noisy venues full of forced happiness and inebriated muppets) so NYE is staying in as it always is. Mrs Noise will retire early and I'll see 2024 in with Jools and Caol Ila.

Weather/conditions dependent might head up Snowdon for the 11th or so time. A dram on the summit at midnight with a load of strangers then walk off and head home. Traditions are funny things, it's only been halted by COVID for the last few years.

Heading up a hill to light the local beacon. Last year involved epic rain, a single but broken lighter, a fireproof sock, netball style basket shooting with logs, and a burning box of cardboard doused in petrol. Going to take my youngest with me this year, what could possibly go wrong?

Nowt, I’ll prob have tea at mums then I’ll be sat at home in my chair watching YouTube/netflix/listening to music.

A few years ago I’d be up at a mates big country pile along with a dozen or other like minded friends with a smorgasbord of class a’s and music, playing pool, snooker, pinball, running around the games rooms, dancing like a loon in the drawing room or tripping my tits off in the 4 acre walled garden but my secondary progressive MS now dictates that I’ll be doing nothing much

I will be getting extremely stoned though so it’s not all bad 😉

edit : dunno why text went all teeny tiny?

For the last 30 odd years about 20 of us plus partners have met up in the same local pub.
Always a great night as people now come from all corners of the world.

We're in Whitby for a few days, so pub...a meal in the fantastic Italian then down to the old beach around 10pm for the fireworks.

Run on the beach on NYD to clear the cobwebs, then pub, then off to Whitby Town v Ilkeston for the afternoon footy.

Perfect for us.

I have the kids at NY so won't be going anywhere but an afternoon and night of board games, playing the switch and maybe a movie or 2 will fill our day.

Having read that back it's not much different from any other day I have them 🙂

Home alone again. Not watching the film, hopefully not having hilarious scrapes with incompetent burglars, just me and an early night, Mrs P may go to see some relatives, but I no longer feel the need to put myself through difficult times to conform to a social norm.

Probably outridden at Swinley by Jnr again in the morning, then home to an M&S laden dining table, wine Prosecco then falling asleep post fireworks on telly and after the cat has calmed down.

Fancy-ish local restaurant. If I'm honest I'd rather stay in, I've never really enjoyed new years always preferred going for it on Xmas eve. I've usually had enough eating and drinking by the 31st.

But it's also the 25th anniversary of meeting MrsMe and she's adamant that we are marking the occasion suitably. The bar we met in is no longer there, but the evenings meal will be had a handful of meters from the spot.

I can’t be the only one who hopes this isn’t autocorrect and really wants to know more.

As for me, chill with Mrs F, the kids and the dog. Will probably stay up and watch Jools Holland with Funk Jr as he finds staying up late exciting.
