The search box on the start menu in W7 - it's worth it just for that. Windows key, start typing the name of what you want, hit enter
Certainly not unique amongst OSes, but virtually essential given the huuuuge "Start - All Programs" list and the complete free for all inconsistent convention for including apps on that list. Some appear in the 1st level, others are in a sub menu, even more are in a submenu by the name of the s/w maker with the executable in a sub-sub menu from there... wtf?! (Maybe that has changed? Never used anything newer than XP, and have no immediate intention to do so)
Compare with gnome (and probably other) menus... Applications - Games and there's yer games. Applications - Office and guess what's there. etc.
Millenium? (Was that what it was called or was it 'ME')
Who'd name an OS after a debilitating illness? I call it Win98 3rd edition.
Love both the OS
I wouldn't go that far with any OS
Decent enough eye-candy
I'd put functionality and ease of use before any eye-candy.
XP has all the APIs that I need. No way I'd pay for new screen bling unless it has real new functionality that I *need*. In fact 99% of the windows stuff I do at home is still on Win2000! Only 1 app refuses to play ball because there's an IF statement in the installer that says it's not supported on anything older than XP. I'd really like to know what API or feature of XP it using that is not in 2k.

Yup Vista has it.

Was that someone agreeing with me up there? He typed too much, so not entirely sure.

That's not down to the OS though, that's down to whoever created the installer. And will be the same if you install the same software under XP or W7.

W7 has real new functionality that makes life better - besides the eye candy. Which I also like.

I stayed with W2k until 2008 or so but I bought a game that installed and ran but didn't really work properly at all, so in the bin it went. W2K I mean not the game.
