Ridiculous question, proper first world problem!!
So I have a new van in order....(yes I feel extravagant etc....)
Due to arrive on 20th Feb. Do I pick it up straight away or wait until March 1st for new plates?
Intend to keep it for 10years (will be a camper in a few months..)
Part of me thinks I should wait for new plays but don't not know why. Other bit of me doesn't want to look like that person with a brand new vehicle!!
Thoughts?
Keeping it for 10 years... surely it is going to make bugger all difference to resale if the plate is 6 months older????
Get it ๐
My new car will be arriving at the dealers this week, but they are going to keep it until March 1st, so I can get a 17 plate. Thinking of a few years down the line, as I think it might be worth a little bit more. Anyway, have been waiting since August ๐ฏ so 3 more weeks won't matter!
Look at me in my new car...!
Overly pretentious?
Won't the dealer be prepared to give a good deal to get their numbers up for February?
Aren't there supposed to be be new tax associated costs on newly registered cars soon?
Edit... Seems to be relating to cars from April onwards

Yes tax changes for any vehicle registered from 1st of April. GET IT NOW !!!!
Edit. Not sure about vans but I'd check
Alpin....big factor for not waiting is so that I i don't look like that person!
Transporter 13- looks like tax bands change is only for cars. And from April....
Think I will just pick it up as soon as. Let the camper conversion begin..
I did the same last year and took it asap as no matter how new it is, by the time you've finished converting it will be several months old anyway if it's anything like our conversion rate!

1st March comes before 1st April normally ๐
I'd wait. If your circumstances change and you want to move it on in a couple of years it will look nice attractive to most buyers.
Use the plate as a bargaining chip with the dealer. Why would you buy a 6 month old plate in the new year? He needs to sell it more than you need to buy it.
