[Closed] New Mattreses, recommendations-Simba /Emma/dormeo or a classic?

check they have handles on the side or changing the sheets get boring fast

We have a Simba, definetly warmer than a pocket sprung mattress. Quite comfortable. Would probably go springs next time as it gets a bit sweaty in summer.

We've just moved from a memory foam topped sprung mattress to a wool sprung mattress. Both of comparable quality, around £800-£1k price.

I'm sleeping much better on the wool one, mainly as I'm not a sweaty lump by the early hours.

We went to a good place (Sterling Mills) and spent time trying out all sorts and listening to some advice.

We both disliked some of the really posh ones and ended up with choice between a couple of British brands.

Got an Ikea mattress, around £200 I think a couple of years ago. Having spent £500 - 600 on previous mattresses this was ok. But not long after I was finding it too hard so have tried some mattress topper which is still not enough.

Anyone tried one of the Dormeo toppers advertised on TV? Nearly as expensive as the mattress itself... 🙂

We have the firmer of the £200ish double IKEA mattresses, got to say it was comfy but again now finding it too firm. It was free mind.

We have just ordered a Brook and Wilde Elite so hopefully its an improvement. just over £700 (king)

I had the best sleep of my life on an 80/90 cm wide IKEA mattress last night. Wow.

We recently bought a half price Emma from Lidl which was a bit of an impulse punt. It lasted a few days before it went back (which was interesting process once it was no longer rolled and vacuum packed!).

I actually found it very comfortable in itself. The issue came when sleeping along side my wife. It didnt support us independently like a pocket sprung, and with me being heavier, my wife felt like she was rolling into me. So, if you’re going to be sharing the bed with someone not of a similar weight, then i’d be very cautious.

The foam ones just don't compare ime

We've had a Simba and currently on an Emma - both crap. Simba lasted a few years, Emma is crap from day one.

I work in the PU foam industry and helped develop Tempur, got the Emma cheap at trade - we are shopping for a pocket sprung again in the new year. Will never have another foam mattress.

We bought an ikea memory foam topped pocket mattress because it came with a no quibble 25 year guarantee, 2 years latter the top layer of foam ripped and the exposed springs poked me in the Jacksie.
Ikea sent a rep round and on investigation I was told some BS that the guarantee was void due to excessive use for my weight (15st)

25yr guarantee? MY ARSE.

We now take note of any comfortable mattresses when we stop in hotels, spending a full/few nights on a mattress is better than a quick bounce in a show room.

We got an IKEA something or other about 4 years ago. Pocket sprung, and we love it. I'm 6"5' with a dodgy lower back and it's lovely. I do like a hard mattress though. Can't tell you which one it is as I'm currently lying on it and don't want to get out of bed 😀

If you sleep warm then avoid a foam mattress. Not only does the foam hold your heat, but the heat softens the foam making you sink further in. For me they go from ‘ooh comfy’ to ‘I have sweat out 20% of my body mass’ in about 2 hours.

Just to repeat what's been said - avoid a mattress with any foam. We bought one with "cooling gel pockets". They don't cool me down and I sleep half the night with my legs out the bed.
Wife loves it, so we're keeping it.

Exactly this except I'm 5'10", 14ish stone but did have a bad back. Spend the saved money on wool duvets.
