I have, it's been nice but it's too big for me. It replaced an XC90 which was quite the behemoth. Don't be fooled into thinking the XC60 is a big car inside, it ain't, it's tiny a bit like medium sized middle aged Women's handbag. Can hold lipsticks, perfume, small purse, 4 mobile phones, a compact, eye mascara, 3 styling hair brushes, lipsalve, spare bangles, 7 assorted earrings (1 is lost) and a couple of more feminate accessories, and spare pants. But that's it. I still have to take the front wheel off the bike and lie it down, the surfboard always goes on the roof because the passenger seat won't fold flat (damn it!!!!!)
I'm looking at something smaller and less aggro in yer face.
Was thinking about an evoque but Paul Hollywood drives one ๐
Wouldn't you save a fortune in congestion charge if you went for a hybrid?
Mitsubishi do an exempt SUV, Audi do an A3 or there's a little BMW that looks like a pram.
๐
I had one when I took my wifes' Freelander 2 for a service.
tbh I'm not sure that it's that much better than the Freelander 2 (ours is 4 y/o high-spec 190bhp auto), except in road holding where it felt 'lower'.
Future-wise, I'm not sure what we'd replace the Freelander 2 with in a few years as we need off-road ability plus towing a decent weight for the horsebox, don't need 7 seats, need space for the dogs, live in rural Scotland so shit roads plus snow are always a concern. Bikes just go on the towbar rack. And we like Land Rovers, FL1 before for 6 years.
Wouldn't you save a fortune in [s]congestion charge[/s] looking like a ponce if you went for a [s]hybrid[/s] proper 4x4?
Fixed that.
Defender if you don't like people laughing at you.
Land Cruiser if you don't like your chosen mechanic laughing at you.
๐
I like Defenders.
If I was more of an incurably romantic Meccano fan I'd have one.
Well, I'd have a 2CV, or an early Panda 4*4 but you get the point.
But I don't live in London, with London bills.
๐
So the bonus on sales you told us you hadn't managed to do came through then?

Jeep Grand Cherokee? I looked at several options and it was the biggest reasonably (I use the term loosely) priced 4x4 that didn't have 7 seats.
My friend has one, he's not a fan, it's a bit small. Get a proper Disco if you're desperate for a LR product.
So the bonus on sales you told us you hadn't managed to do came through then?
No
Im with you bikebuoy, I like those as well, and she likes driving my 1er so a test drive may change things. Its not quite as big although the kids are beyond the age of the biggest child seats and paraphanalia needed tp be carried around.
Going to the hybrid comments - petrol or hybrid is a big option, as the car is used 80 % for school runs. I did the theory on the hybrid beemer which neither of us like the look of, and discovered itd do the whole school run of course with no petrol being used.
Has Hora started a new life and been given a new identity (with extra funding)?
I'm not sure he is being as discrete as he should be....
Hybrid Outlander is roomy enough but the seven seat option is lost due to the rear electric motor. You do get around 200bhp from the combined power output though. Early models are a bit more stylish than the facelift ones.
A friend has one. She turned up last night in a Range Rover so I asked why. Apparently her new Disco is in for the third time with electrical issues that are so far baffling the dealer.
She wasn't impressed.

The problem with this is that then you'd have a Mitsushitty Outlander
im a land rover fan.
but seeing how bad the electrics are on cars without much in the way of electrics ( defenders) i wouldnt bother with a range rover or disco. Id buy a prado if i wanted something of that ilk.
Parents have a 4 door evoque - if you want a dependable sizable family car i would look else where its a pokey shoe box and has its electrical foibles as stock for a landy.
It is how ever the comfiest thing ive ever driven - far better than their previous C and E class mercs.
Choose life.
had a test drive in November, also XC60 and X3. Ordered an A6 estate instead. Bigger, nicer to drive, low roof for bike racks, cheaper on a 4 yr PCP (a lot cheaper). Good enough in snow in quattro edition.
So the bonus on sales you told us you hadn't managed to do came through then?
They don't cost that much to lease, although 6 months payments would buy you a mac that would be great for surfing the web, homework, posting middle class angst threads on stw and other stuff ๐

My parents have one it is very nice indeed, very comfortable and lovely to dive. The boot isn't s great size though but that might not matter.
Saw one parked in a disabled bay at Booths. The driver wasn't disabled.
Might have been my Dad but we don't have a Booths near us, he's registered disabled though not sure if you're able to spot it though. Of course it could also have been me picking him up after having an episode whilst out.
Don't forget a nice summer holiday. They don't cost that much to lease, although 6 months payments would buy you a mac that would be great for surfing the web, homework, posting middle class angst threads on stw and other stuff
You do know we're being trolled?
You do know we're being trolled
Yes, some time ago.
it's a little narrow for 3 teenage girls in the back
Now I AM envious.
XC 40?? By jingo that looks great!
I might wait a little longer, any ideas on release???

I believe you can do this with any car, doesn't need to be a Disco Sport .
Don't forget a nice summer holiday.
No, that's a different budget, holidays are paid for by simply skipping your rent for a bit. It's fine to do that.
I had a tour of the Halewood factory in Merseyside where they make the Disco Sport and baby Range Rover, starting with an offroad session. (The things I do for work ).It was hard to come away from that without an admiration for the process of manufacturing the things (starting with rolls of steel from Port Talbot) - and the products. The noise and sight of the massive 1950s machines stamping panels, now with incredibly dextrous robots rather than people grabbing and moving the panels is amazing - as is watching the two sets of different bodies separately taking full form, before joining on a common chassis.
I am not in the market for one (I have a Mini to keep the flag flying ), but I'd definitely recommend the tour and at least a good look at the cars.
If you're lazy like me - footage here:

Not by me its a genuine question, although the X1 is back on the test drive list and I'd imagine that XC40 to be tiny if the XC60 is small already?
She won't have the new Kuga, Quashqai, Skoda, Kia or Honda although the Seat Ateca is on the test drive list.
Our XC60 feels enormous in terms of load capacity.
What can you get in it ? I can get 2 bikes in mine with front wheels off and lying them down only. My surfboard won't go in because the passenger seat doesn't fold flat..
I'll admit when I bought it that I knew about the bikes, I rarely carry both. But was disappointed to find the passengers seat doesn't fold flat (forward or backward)
Nice car though, I've got the D4 auto SE and it's a nice place to be and surprisingly easy to drive.
Ok, I'll look into XC60's as well, thanks.
I can fit 2 bikes with wheels of, a pram and a passenger in the back of my XC60. I have D3 SE manual and its a nice car to drive.
You do know we're being trolled? Not by me its a genuine question,

Are you sure? ๐
...But also trips to Legoland family trips, MTB weekends away...
I've had 2 Tallboys with front wheels off and bars turned, a fully diasemebled hardtail and a 4 year old in a seat plus a bootfull of luggage.
She won't have the new Kuga, Quashqai, Skoda, Kia or Honda although the Seat Ateca is on the test drive list.
If the "not Skoda" refers just to the Yeti, and isn't brand snobbery, the Kodiaq is out soon - which might suit...
No its badge she won't entertain, I've floated pictures of the Kodiak in front of her...
as the car is used 80 % for school runs.
No its badge she won't entertain,
gotta have the right tool for the job. ๐ .
Though I'm a bit surprised a Ford has managed to cut it til now.
I had a friend who worked for JLR in a Range Rover / Land Rover dealership. He always talked up the range rovers but advised never to get a disco sport. In his view they were badly made and unreliable. Not a great drive either....doesn't bode well.
I've just got a Jag XE company car - obviously not a disco - but part of the same group. Feels really solid and well made to me, but haven't had it long enough to see how the reliability is yet. The remote start app for cold mornings is mega!!
Is the Freelander 2 an option? You can pick up the later 65 reg ones which were high specced with under 15,000 miles for half the price of the Discovery Sport.
In the Citroen C6 thread there was a photo of a sorted old Volvo

Wouldn't something like that do what you want?
Just wondering why folk are looking at spending so much on new cars every month when something like that would do the job? Not trying to pass judgement or anything, just wondering what the thought process is? (As someone who couldn't afford a new car and always had old ones!)
Many companies offer company cars or car allowance. You pay benefit in kind tax (or whatever its called) on company cars so the allowance can work out much better. There's usually a clause that the car you use is no older than 3 years so most are leased or PCP, using the pence per mile to pay.
Also, others just need a reliable car and change their car every three years as they like a car that has warranty so lease or PCP it.
That old Ovlov won't cut it on the school run, sorry but K57 lives somewhere near Epping darhlings.
I doubt they'd let him over the drawbridge of his gated community.
