Me too, but the price doesn't 🙂

2008 Airstream Basecamp to European Specification (Demonstrator)
Recommended Retail Price on the Road ?32,208 inc. VAT
Offer price GBP?28,850 inc. VAT = Saving ?3,358

Still, it could be tempting.

Caravans are cool, ignorant drivers aren't. Don't get the two mixed up. Plenty of old codgers around here driving 30 on windy roads without a caravan in sight, so I don't think it's the van that's the problem 🙂

They've done their best to cram it with items that sum up my interests (and likely lots on here) its a real lifestyle piece of marketing
Its only a small caravan at the end of the day and ridiculously expensive.
Nice looking of course.

Caravans are silly.

Where's the sense in towing a temporary plastic home around with you, using loads of petrol and possibly causing traffic chaos - just so you can sit on your own plastic toilet?

Rent a static caravan at your destination instead.

I can't see it being worse than a loaded van for holding up traffic.

I still want one; Where I go there aren't static caravans 🙂

Cos it's loads better than a tent. Static caravans are great if you want to spend your holiday in a complex of three thousand chavs and gormless brummies on a strip of coast just outside some crappy seaside resort. If you want to go somewhere nice then you either camp or take a caravan. And caravans are way way nicer than tents 🙂

And you can't take static vans to bike races either. Next time you're crawling in and out of a tent wet and muddy trying to get kip in a sleeping bag whilst loud mouthed northerners are getting drunk 3 feet from your ear, sneak a peek through the window of one of those lovely warm dry caravans where people are showering, cooking on a stove and drinking ice cold beer from their fridge.....

Sounds like a quote from a Kevin Costner film.

To me it looks like it would be "cold" to sleep in. Not temperature cold but aesthetically doesn't look like you could get warm and cosy after a hard day out in the cold and wet.

I'm about to start a DIY campervan conversion on a Merc Sprinter. Bespoke wet access at rear for toys, warm insulated and heated doilie free living space with all the cons (debate is still ongoing about bog vs extra storage room). Should come in at about 12K on a 55 plate which make this look a bit pricy.

Isnt that the point though if it has to do duel duty as bike/canoe/whatever storage then it cant be exactly plush after all you would have to clean it out. But its expensive and if you look at the size of it its still not exactly small. If only there was european company making something simlar. I quite like the TAB/T@B range but they lack the practicality aspect for me.

Classic and my thoughts exactly.

I love my caravan and its way way better than grubbing around on the floor putting on damp cloths walking through mud to get a shower or take a sh1t, squatting to cook, warm beer, noisy walls with no sound proofing or insulation etc.

I have overtaken old codgers with my caravan in tow too so don't blame us all for holding up traffic!

The thing I like about the Airstream is it is a new way of looking at the age old caravan concept. The T@B and Campy are cool looking, but follow the old layout.

I have to say, you would expect the airstream to be cheaper than those other caravans, there seems to be less to it internally.

What would be cool is a Van where the steering wheel disappeared to give the same layout with big doors at the back.

I thought Airstream had been going since the 40's?

Bit snobbish innit?

I've stayed at many static caravan sites and have never been kept awake by Burberry-clad youths doughnutting Vauxhall Novas around the campsite.

I've never been disturbed by anyone, ever, in fact.

Just spent four nights on the coast 10 mins from Kirroughtree for £60 last week.

I mean the rear opening front kitchen layout of the Basecamp rather than the traditional little side door type thing.
