If you haven't seen it yet...Pinocchio (Guillermo del toro) a fantastic piece of work.
If you have seen it,check out the short film (also on Netflix)of how they put it all together, with some great detail on the workings of those amazing models.
I may have to watch it again tonight.

The Adam Project on Netflix. Fair warning, if you've a troubled relationship with or a just plain absent father, it'll destroy you. Segueing into the start of Archer series 13 was needed and appreciated!

Watched the first 3 episodes of 1899 and not very impressed - I love ships, sci fi, languages and mystery so I thought it would be right up my street but it just seems lacking in believable characters though the main woman is quite good and its sooooo sloooooow Does it get any better?

On the opposite side of the spectrum, just rewatched both series of Russian Doll  as my wife hadn't seen them - I was blown away the first time and even on a second watch it was great as I caught all the little details I missed the first time round. Script is superb and the visuals/cinematography blow 1899 out of the water so to speak

Don't know if it's been discussed yet but I took out the free trial of Paramount+ to watch Halo & King of Tulsa.

Used to play a lot of Halo 1 /2 BITD so there's a fair amount of nostalgia there, it looks good & the battles are great (although I don't know if they'd really of any interest to someone who'd never played the games!) but the whole thing is like it's been executive-produced by a 15-year old boy - it's just terrible 😂 Didn't even make it through the first episode in one sitting.

King of Tulsa on the other hand I thought was excellent, ended up binge-watching 4 episodes (there are only 5 at the moment!) Stallone is great although it kind of pinballs between being fairly serious, and faintly ridiculous! He looks incredible for a 75-year-old, and he's striding around punching people out left and right like a man 20 years younger or more. Maybe he's still that tough IRL? Dunno, it kind of seems like it requires some suspension of disbelief though 🤷‍♂️ Either way, really enjoying it!

Looks like there's a few other interesting shows on P+ so will probably keep it for a few months, at least until the end of S1 of KoT!

This looks like it could be interesting.

https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80992058

The USP is that it's a story arc where you can watch the episodes in any order for a "unique immersive experience" (but I think the first and last may be fixed?)

@Cougar yeah that sounds pretty cool.

(of course, it's been done. You can watch the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon in any order as long as you watch the first one first & the last one last, and it won't affect the story arc 😃)

They should tweak their software so it automatically plays the episodes in a random order, and doesn't tell you what numbers they are!

Oooh, interesting! I'm just reading a review saying it's a bit baws compared to Trapped though - what did you think of it?

Apparently Wisting S2 is available on iplayer, so will be checking that out too

Well, kinda. D&D wasn't really an arc, they were all standalone episodes. There wasn't a last episode, it was written but never filmed (the script is called "Requiem" and you can find it online).

They should tweak their software so it automatically plays the episodes in a random order, and doesn’t tell you what numbers they are!

As far as I'm aware, that's exactly what it does. There aren't episode numbers, just names.

Netflix has previous here, Love Death + Robots does the same (as I found when it lost my viewing history and I was trying to work out where I was up to...)

That reminded me - nothing to do with the above except that there is a BBC mini series called Requiem that was on a few years ago which is on Netflix. Its not bad and its a pity they didn't do a second season

Another Round and Guillermo's Pinnochio, both on Netflix now and both excellent.

Warning: it gets very dusty at the end of Pinnochio.

I watched a fascinating and terrifying documentary the other day on Netflix about the opioid epidemic in North America. Well worth a viewing as it was pointed out in the doc that whats happening there now will soon be getting a grip in the UK next. Fentanyl overdoses are now the biggest cause of death in people under the age of 50 in the states

Ten Dollar Death Trip

Ignore the somewhat overdramatic title (why do TV companies do that?). Its actually a very well made and sensitively handled programme

I saw on Russell Howard (I had to turn it off) that this was all over the news??? I mean, who watches that shit (apart from people who want to make hilarious satirical comedy shows with easy targets)

I watched "Good Night Oppy" on Prime, which would have been a fascinating documentary about the Mars rovers... if not for the Americans... they really ruined it by just being so American. Some of the science was still fascinating though.

Best TV of the year for me was definitely "The White Lotus" 2nd series. Never seen anything like it before. Was brill.

@chakaping Did you watch the short film showing the behind the scenes/making of Pinocchio?
Very good and the detail/mechanics of some of the models are incredible.

Both series of White Lotus have been absolutely superb!

Another one of the years TV highlights was Big Boys on Channel 4. Absolutely beautifully written and acted while being very, very funny

Oh yeah - Big Boys was great! The guy who played Danny does stand up comedy too. He's bloody funny. "Am I right?!!"

I showed my lad a clip from it that popped up on social media, but I'll watch the short over Xmas.

Stunning seeing the time lapse footage of it being shot.

I binged The Recruit over the weekend

https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81396545?s=i&trkid=13747225&vlang=en&clip=81645256

Good fun, first episode a touch weak but gets better. “Gen Z in the CIA”.

Have we had 'Three Pines' on Amazon yet?

I've really enjoyed it thus far, asked for the books for crimbo.

Did no-one else watch/enjoy Wednesday? And not just the Cramps Goo Goo Muck dance scene.

Alchemy of Souls Part 2 is now 4 episodes in… I miss Mu-Deok but I’m definitely back in the zone for AoS… definitely hating the new episodes released Saturday/Sunday’s only…

Picked up on Stranger (I’m a Bae DooNa fan). Really enjoyed season 1, not sure I can get into season 2 though. Fighting corruption in the Prosecution Service (S. Korea).

watched the first episode & enjoyed it, will probably go back for more but tbh there's so much good telly now or other stuff I want to give a watch it's a fair way down the list! Currently ploughing my way through Deadwood actually which I missed first time round.

Bit of a left-field one, but while searching for an Irish thing that a friend had recommended, I happened upon a documentary made by RTÉ (Irish state broadcaster) called The Funeral Director. Pretty sure it’s only about 45 or 50 minutes but it follows a funeral director from rural-ish Ireland and is a warts-and-all (but in a gentle way) insight into what he does and some of the people he does it for. There are a few beautiful moments and insights into death and bereavement. I found it utterly charming and for any Irish forumites, or those with Irish connections, I can thoroughly recommend it.

Has anyone watched Severance? Really something different and really out there. Very stylish. Leaves you guessing and thinking all the way through. Final 2 episodes were amazing and tense. Total cliff hanger ending so Season 2 hopefully. Didn't recognise any of the actors apart from Christopher Walken.

Tried an episode of Wednesday. Very pretty but felt formulaic, like Harry Potter with an Adam's Family skin on.

Series One pretty similar 🤪. Both excellent.

Someone mentioned an opioid crisis doc in which case Dope Sick on Disney totally worth a mention. A brilliant docu-drama.

I rate it as one of the very best shows of the last few years.

Didn’t recognise any of the actors apart from Christopher Walken.

As in, you didn't know who they were or their acting was so good, you didn't recognize them? Adam Scott in particular was a standout for me, I've only seen him in comedies so this was impressive. John Turturro did his usual excellent work and Dichen Lachman was unrecognizable from Altered Carbon - I knew I'd seen her before, but couldn't think where. Patricia Arquette also did a really great job.

Been watching White Lotus, that is how you make a compelling tv show! Really hard not to just immediately start the next episode each time 😃 Arguably even better than S1.

I watched a riveting documentary on Netflix at the weekend - The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari. It is about the tourists caught in the eruption on a volcanic island (White Island is the colonial name) off the east coast of the north island of New Zealand. Lots of compelling footage and really quite sad outcomes for some of the people.

Yeah watched the Volcano programme last night. Really interesting programme. Hard to imagine how horrific that must have been, the boat ride back across from the island must have been appalling.

I saw the trailer for that the other day. It looks really good.

Have you watched ‘The Rescue’ about rescuing the Thai lads from the flooded caves? It’s absolutely incredible! It’s on Disney+ and on National Geographic (via Sky)

Also a fan of Severance. Had forgotten about it though.

Anyone who's watched White Lotus, have any of you also watched Nine Perfect Strangers with Nicole Kidman? I really enjoyed it... Are they sufficiently different from each other?

Also really enjoyed the Peripheral (there's a STW thread).

Ah apologies I actually thought it was a recent show as it wasn't on my radar at all and a friend shared it with me.

I didn't think I knew any of the other actors but now you say Patricia Arquette...of course!!! She was brilliant. I did watch altered carbon but don't remember it well at all apart from the main dude.

Glad to hear others thought it was great as the other half was so so about it but I absolutely loved it. So nice to watch something utterly different and the title sequence is just gorgeous.

Yeah. I recommended it a few pages back, it's absolutely gripping. 13 Lives, the Ron Howard semi-fictional account of the same thing is also good, though tbh it doesn't add much except allowing for dialogue and some dramatised diving sequences.

Finally got around to watching The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (Prime). Really fun movie. Nic Cage is back! Not that he ever went anywhere 😀 Pedro Pascal is great, too.

Also watched the first ep of S3 of Jack Ryan, which I had hopes for despite being underwhelmed by S2 (S1 was great IMO). Really poor, just one cliche after another (the bad guys have a nuke, what an original plot 😂) and the fish-out-of-water JR character from the first season has now fully morphed into a Jason Bourne-esque supersoldier so it could just be any generic, badly plotted action thriller really.
