Anyone watching Night Agent S2?
One of the early episodes was a bit flaky, a bit too expositional, "we have to explain what's going on", but the rest has rattled along at a good pace. Enjoyable stuff.
Just finished Crà on iplayer. Sort of Irish noir comedy Shakespeare tragedy. Usual cast of Irish cliches including fabulous scenery but it turned out to be pretty good.
Got a recommendation from a family member on this, have added it to the longlist
Has Woman of the Hour been recommended yet? If not, then, definitely worth a watch.
American Primeval is pretty decent, especially the first episode. Mormons vs US Cavalry vs Native Americans. Similar style to The Revenant, I think it was written by the same person.
Crá wasn’t too bad (must have been great for the Donegal tourist board). Odd about the subtitles - you could watch Kneecap or An Cailín Ciúin to see if it’s an Irish language thing? (Both good films.)
Night Agent, first two episodes so far, was just silly. halfway through Bad country on netflix so far and it’s shaping up nicely .
The untold series of sports documentaries on netflix is surprisingly good, particularly Crime and penalties.

Done a few episodes, so far basically series 1 recreated, same two characters getting chased by bad people.
In a similar vein, Prime Target on Apple, only a couple of episodes available at the moment, seems to be shaping into some kind of macguffin where a genius maths formula could save/doom the world, cue lots of running away from mystery assassins, improbable surveillance technology and 'hacking' etc.
Sort of 'Theory of Everything' meets 'National Treasure', by the looks of it. Diverting enough, I suppose.
I've not read any of this thread, but I've just watched Number 24 and it's deeply moving.

Watched I'm Tim the other night, documentary about Avicii and his untimely death. Well worth a watch, it's made with a vast amount of home video footage so you really follow along as he becomes more and more famous. Don't think it's necessary to like the music to appreciate what happened to him.
Also watched American Primeval. Are the Mormons happy about it!? No idea what the reality of it all is, but they don't come across as a particularly welcoming bunch! Need to read around it a bit now....

I just finished the third series of Mr Inbetween and loved every minute of it. The finale was suitably explosive. Top notch telly!
signed up to disney+ to watch this. enjoyed first series. 2 episodes into the 2nd series and it seems to have lost its way and got a bit 'same old same old'. wifes already dropped off but ill stick with it as its so well recommended on here.
Watched Triangle of Sadness on iPlayer the other night.
Started well and maintained interest until final 3rd where it seemed to lose its conviction. I was expecting more TBH.
Just binged season 1 of The Sinner on Netflix, a decent US police / detective series with a reasonable cast. It's not season 1 of True Detective but was worth watching. 3 more seasons, too, so I'll see what they're like.
To me The Sinner starts well then massively drops off in quality. I couldn't finish season 4.
Not sure of the hype for The Night Agent either - some terrible acting and completely improbable story line. Done 3 episodes so far but not sure I'll make the full ten!
Anyone watching Prime Target on Apple? First 2 episodes are a but Da Vinci Code-ish. And that is not a good thing.
EDIT - just saw @martinhutch posted about it already. Suspect we have the same evaluation.
Most bonkers thing i have watched recently, has anyone see Preacher with Dominic Cooper and Jo Gilgun (from Brassic)?
I watched it on one of the streamers, but cannot see to see which it is on now, but would thoroughly recommend if you like the slightly violent and unhinged!

watched 2 episodes of Night Agent 2. Mrs Epic was excited cos she thought it was Night Manager 2. So she was disappointed when she realised her mistake, willing to give it a try, but has fallen asleep watching both episodes. The plot is thin as anything, completely unconvincing and I don't give a sh1t about what happens next.
So this evening I'll be watching France:Wales - even the Welsh scrum is likely to have a better plan than Peter Sutherland i reckon, and will handle themselves better if there's any off the ball handbaggery
Anyone who enjoyed Ludwig (with David Mitchell) will probably enjoy High Potential (Disney+). It's not super plausible but the clues/solving are fun and the lead is really good (although she does remind me of Avril Lavigne!). We watched the 3 that area available last night and enjoyed them all. I guess it's like all these kind of shows, where does it go after the initial premise gets a bit thin. There is a mildly interesting sub plot tho.
Developed from a French TV series- I'm tempted to go see what the original was like.
We then started Paradise (also Disney+). Only one episode in but quite a plot twist at the end. Good acting all round, looking forward to catching up with a few more episodes over the weekend. Think it might end up being quite dark.
Re Preacher @scud. Absolutely ridiculous nonsense. Saw it Prime a few years ago. God as a dog.
In a similar vein, Banshee. Wow! Years later it still sticks in the mind.
Black doves was totally awful almost so bad it's good and only saved by good leads but the amount of shooting/carnage was impossibly stupid and would make John Woo blush. The Irish hit-women were just terrible.
Day of The Jackal was absolutely fantastic and spy stuff done well. Little slack in all 10 episodes. Each one a mini-movie.
Taylor Sheridan knocked it out of the park for me with Landman, Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King back end of last year. Even the end of Yellowstone was okay with me despite awful reviews.
Yellowstone 1-4 now on Netflix for those that don't have paramount plus. Just a fantastic series if you like that over the top Neo-western thing.
Still less killing than on Black Doves.
Over Christmas - Films-wise I would hugely recommend Anora, Heretic, The Order, Emilia Perez, Strange Darling, Furiosa, Never Let Go, Kinds of Kindness but not so much Gladiator II which was okay-ish, not a classic and instantly forgettable.
Furiosa - still my 'cinema' experience of 24 but was a bit of a flop. I thought it was fantastic and beats out Fury Road for me.

Hard to understand how you can have both those thoughts in your head simultaneously. Obviously "realistic" was not in the list of requirements in either case, but DoJ did not seem to understand that nobody in the audience could possibly take any element of the plot seriously, whereas BD did at least have a laugh at itself and the genre.
I liked Black Doves for the same reason I liked The Gentlemen - both totally stupid but great, fun, brains-out TV. And the producers knew what they were making and how to do it well.

Good news, series 2 of Night Manager is finally coming to the beeb this year and series 3 is commissioned. Same great cast.

Stumbled across a film on Netflix - “The Hitman's Apprentice”… now it was pretty decent, starred Tim Roth and Jack O’Connell .. must be from around 2010-2012 and when I tried to look this up on imdb I found it’s actually called ‘The Liability’ from 2012.
We thatched The Menu on Disney last night after a recommendation from one of my colleagues in work. It was absolutely brilliant! Very dark, very funny, and taking aim at food snobs. Had a Ben Wheatley feel about it. Mrs B said it was the most enjoyable film she'd seen in years. Ralph fiennes puts in a great turn as a right malevelont bastard! Very highly recommended

Because all films/series are inherently works of fiction but the cinematic reality that is sold to you has to be convincing enough that it doesn't pull you out.
Not all thrillers drive a narrative that is just plausible enough.
Black Doves ep1 had decent writing - the quality drop was rough from there on in. I think the UK makes a tricky cinematic backdrop for action thrillers personally.
Quite enjoyed American Primeval on Netflix.

Couldn't agree more. It was absolute nonsense and knew full well it was absolute nonsense. I really enjoyed the Jackel too, even though it was a very different animal, but equally preposterous.

Well, I guess it's lucky we don't share a TV because for me DoJ wasn't remotely plausible in any respect whatsoever. None of the characters rang remotely true, and the plot, gadgets etc were obviously completely ridiculous. In BD I found the characters amusing if not entirely believable. But - as long as you're not fighting for my remote, you're most welcome to think differently 🙂

For my money, The Wire is the best thing that has ever been on TV - thriller, comedy, social documentary. Ten years after, I can still feel the shattering blow when (spoiler alert) Omar is shot. Brilliant.

It was a bit uneven, but I rate it as one of the best three shows from an amazing era of TV: Sopranos, The Wire, and Deadwood. Battlestar Galactica was surprisingly good too and Breaking Bad was brilliant.
For some reason (procrastination from uni work) I’ve started on Dexter. I’m on season 2. Worth sticking with?

I don't have Sky Atlantic so treated myself to a second hand box set of DVDs of The Wire. I've never had a full 2 weeks off at Xmas, and managed to binge the entire set, having just prior binged the entire West Wing!
I've also revisited Narcos season 1 & 2, completed season 3, and about to start on Narcos Mexico. Perfect breakfast viewing before bike rides/commutes...better than watching the news anyway.
