Stayed in a house with a Nespresso machine on holidays and I think it might be the answer to my coffee machine dilemma. I don't drink a huge amount of coffee at home and don't have much space in the kitchen which rules out a proper machine, but do like a good strong black coffee and that's what I got from the Nespresso thing.
Question is, can you get the capsules easily? In France there were loads on sale in a SuperU in a small town but haven't seen any here (had a quick look in Sainsburys and Asda).
Do I need to get them online or is there another way? Any experiences (good or bad) welcome...
AFAIK they're mail order only over here
Mail order only but do deliver very very quick.
If you're in London you can get the capsules and machines from Selfridges or they have a dedicated shop somewhere near (but not in) Harrods.
Best coffee ever! I first had Nespresso at a friend's last Xmas ... I am a full-on coffee snob and couldn't believe how good it is. I work in Manchester and there is an outlet in Selfridges in the Trafford Centre (plus you can sample the coffee). However, if you are not close by, the postage charges are very reasonable.
I took the machine to Italy this summer, as we were in self-catering. Had the p*ss taken out of me by several friends ... coals to Newcastle, etc ... but even saw Nespresso machines being used there, especially in posh shops!
BTW, there's usually an offer on, so you get a £40 or so voucher with the machine, making it pretty cheap. Buy the manual, as it's fun playing around with strengths.
Enjoy! 😆
P.S.I don'twork for them, nor do I find George Clooney remotely attractive!
if you don't have much room, a handpresso and illy pods from tesco - fantastic coffee from a wee machine, no power required
bialetti.
You buggers. I was just getting ready for bed and now I need a coffee. Fortunately even the decaff stuff is very good.
Mail order like others have said, and if you got a decent no of capsules at a time, the postage is negligable.
phatstanley got it right, a bialetti is the winner here. you don't have to worry about where to get coffee from, you can make as much and whatever strength you want and probably works out cheaper
quite a pricy way to do it tbh - the capsules arent cheap but there are many flavours.
It's daylight robbery for lazy arses who are "like...really into coffee...yaw" 🙂
I have 1 or 2 a day & am the only coffee drinker in our house-I find the convenience of having fresh coffee whenever I fancy outweighs the rather high cost of the capsules. Delivery is quick & you pay around £4.50 for delivery od 100 capsules-this halves if you buy 200 capsules but then you are ordering £60 of coffee!
I used to use filter coffee but found it went stale before the pack was used.
I bought some in a Nespresso shop in Lille-I couldn't believe how popular it is with the French-the shop was packed!.
Loads of different blends to try, including flavoured ones (hint of ginger, chestnut etc.)
They have concessions in Selfridges, so London, Birmingham, Manchester - plus Harrods and a standalone London shop too. I tend to just order online though.
I use mine pretty regularly, but not enough to keep a batch of ground coffee fresh, and I can't be arsed with grinding my own beans and faffing about with the steps to use a proper espresso machine (and then clean it afterwards). Yeah, it might be possible to make slightly better coffee at home but I really can't be bothered with that. It's telling that friends with Nespresso ones use them a lot while there are plenty of "proper" machines that seem to be no more than worktop ornaments.
25p a cup isn't bad when the alternative (for my effort level) would be going down to a cafe and being charged £2 for the same.
Thanks all. It's the convenience that appeals and it makes very, very good coffee (significantly better than the Senseo machine I also tried).
Compared with binning most of a bag of coffee because it went stale before I used it, even 30 - 40p a cup isn't so bad.
Edit: I have a bialetti thing somewhere but never use it as coffee doesn't stay fresh for long enough
Great coffee ... as I said in an earlier post, I was a coffee snob before and Nespresso has made me worse. This coffee tastes wonderful and there is a broad range of choice depending on what strength you prefer.
Unless you like milk in your coffee think about the Magimix M100 manual (there is an automatic, but that obviously takes away your ability to play with the length of the coffee). You can get some good prices - I got mine from here and the service was good. If you can wait, there are often special offers that include money off capsules - I got £40 worth with mine, meaning that it only really cost £60 for the machine. Not cheap, but definitely worth it in my book.
Right, off for a strong coffee now!
Aeropress...brilliant coffee and very simple.
ARRRGGHHHH - another thing I didn't know I needed until STW pointed it out...!!
The mail order only nonsense is a big turn off for me. I'd have to be taking a weekly trip to the postoffice to collect undelivered parcels. Although saying that, we do have the nifty PackStations that would make it slightly easier. But still not as easy as picking up a pack of Lavazza/Illy when I'm in the supermarket.
Tried Senseo - I reckon you could get stronger dishwater, although double-depth capsule with Lavazza is better, but defeats the object of a convenience coffee machine.
A salesman in John Lewis tried to flog me a Senseo machine - utterly minging "coffee."
We've got one and the caffine-free coffee from the red capsules is the best decaf I've ever had. (I realize for the real coffee lovers this is irrelevant BTW) 🙂
The handpresso is very cool though, could be on my christmas list!
The Nespresso fairy has been 🙂
Bought time I had some freebies from them. Though I hope not the milk chocolate squares they were a bit mank 🙁
Careful, you won't sleep 😉
Big nesperro user here.
All good.

I like the purple one.
We have had a nespresso machine for 3 years now its great, heats up super quick and makes a great coffee with good crema. I guess the pods do seem a tad expensive but the coffee is really good and compare it to a similar quality coffee in a cafe between 2 & 3 quid and its really cheap. Ours has a milk frother which is ok for the occasionally frothy coffee, but its not like the industrial pipes you see in cafes.
The mail order via internet site is super quick, but not a wiggle style free postage so worth checking out total cost of developing an addictive habit :0)
There is a company now making capsules for nespresso machine thats you can fill yourself, google for them. They are not cheap though and not reusable.
Spent the weekend in a caffeine-fuelled haze. Yay!
Just had the strong decaf (of that's not too much of a contradiction in terms) and that's really good too.
Only dilemma now is do I drink all the freebies and order at the end, or take a punt so I don't run out of capsules?
