If I was to park on the left of my drive and pull out and turn the rear overhang of the van will scrape the post.

So you could widen your gate instead of ruining your neighbour grass?

This thread keeps on giving. Intially it was mainly in the OPs favour then shifted to be against him.

to those of you who thinks its OK at what point does damaging public property become OK? If driving over a grassy verge is OK what about knocking over roadsigns that are in your way? How about bollards - inconvenient things they are and get in the way and stop you parking where you want.

Public statues? there are some in Edinburgh blocking spaces that could be used for car parking

At what point does it become wrong to damage public proerty so you canpark?

to the OP - I do sympathise with your wish to keep your tools safe but you need to find another way of doing this so you can avoid doing this damage.

How have I missed this?

Is it some sort of turf war?

...or give up carpentry, sell my van, sign on, drink cider, repair cars on my drive and front garden for extra cash. I could keep bits of cars in the rear garden for when i need them. Invite my mates round and party til the wee hours..

Can you think of a way of gaining access to your drive without driving over the verge?

Not enough sympathy for the old dear here it seems.
Back in her day, everyone wanted the front of their property to look nice, it reflected on them personally.
If she wants to keep up standards, and her neighbour doesn't care or understand, it must be frustrating for her.

Yeah, I feel like a right divot. You'd think someone would have grassed.

True, but it's a pretty forlorn state of affairs.

But you must admit, the debate has come a fair way.

Having said that, I'm border this and I'm on the verge of giving up. I can't take any mower.

Stick the bed outside her house.

Ironically, making puerile puns seems to be one of the least childish and stupid things to have happened in this thread.....but at least no one fell out about it.

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread - cheered me up no-end!

OP: With the important caveat that there is nothing in your lease stopping you from parking a commercial vehicle on your drive (and that it's impossible for you to NOT drive over the verge)

Either:
People parking opposite your drive are obstructing your access.
Your driveway/post/hedge/verge interface is not adequate and needs adjustment.
The council verge needs amending in some way.

It's for the council to choose to address any/all of those things, or choose to ignore the complaint from your neighbor.

My advice would be to "agree" with your neighbour - "its terrible, those people parking opposite are forcing me to drive over the verge. yes, yes, terrible. I've called the council about it and asked them to stop them parking there, but they won't do anything. Why don't you call them and ask them too?" Before you know it, you'll be bonding over whinging about people parking in the road.

The OP's neighbour, try to keep up. (-:

When did that happen ?

Also tj - you have never moved over onto the verge to let someone past on a narrow road ? Or is that ok because the grass isn't trimmed.

Fwiw - some vans have significantly better turning circles than others. Transits/ivecos being best in class.

Jesus! This was just over three pages when I last checked 😯

I agree that the OP should possibly look to widen his drive, but what's with all the vitriol aimed at the poor bugger? Do any of you know him or his neighbour? She may indeed be a spiteful, mean old git. I've known lots of bitter old people in my time.

I'm loving the people suggesting having the council paint double yellow lines across the road opposite his house. I have them at the front of my house and opposite the drive. Doesn't stop anybody from parking on the pavement right outside my house or straight across from my driveway though.

OP - If your neighbour genuinely is a spiteful old bag and you have no viable way of missing the verge I'd be looking to move. Life's too short to get stressed out about these sort of thing.

It's also not his grass to drive over and destroy using that logic.

I know him, i met him in Morzine last year and he's a thoroughly nice chap. I don't think for a second he's doing this malisciously or without thought/consideration.

Small triangle of concrete over the corner where grass is being churned up, painted green to blend in. 😉

Or park van on road across the driveway?

That gives me an idea....

The internet loves a pile on. Add in 73% of STW being driving gods descended from the testicles of Ayrton Senna himself, and it's quite predictable.

Not sure there is been any vitriol, just some balanced criticism and a fair bit of banter.

The trouble is that the OP does not to seem to accept that he might actually be in the wrong.

This. I think we all agree that it's difficult for you to manoeuvre your van in/out of your drive due to the inconsiderate parking of others.

And you neighbour sounds about as much fun as a sword fight with an octopus.

Just keep off the bloody grass! 🙂 (a la Parkie from the Viz)

Judging by the fact that the one person that actually appears to know him says he is nice, I'm going to go ahead and hazard a guess that this is his neighbour:

It's just occurred to me that all verges in my road are owned and maintained by highways England.

In spite of that almost everyone mows the verge outside their house and generally keeps it looking nice. The two or three houses that let theirs go wild are noticeable exceptions. There are a couple of places where stones have been placed to stop cars tearing the verge up.

So I conclude that wanting your verge to look nice is pretty much typical, not the exception.

Has nobody suggested if he can afford a big van and bikes and holidays he should give up his council house and go buy one with a big drive.. Stw standards must be slipping

Tho they may not I've not read it all 😉

The parallel thread on OAPTRACKWORLD has already passed "slash the tyres" and "what acid for car paintwork". A report to the council regarding the parking of a commercial vehicle in the garden of a council property seems to be winning the day.

But, sometimes forgiveness is easy to ask for, than permission. (But not with the OP's neighbour)

For what it's worth, if it was me. I'd chop off the post, cut the hedge back 3 feet and put a line of flags up the existing edge of the drive.
However, that would have stopped this whole thread and where's the fun in that.

Could the OP not put a plank type thing over the grass, drive on that then remove the plank type thing?

Only MOT it's had since I owned it it sailed through with no advisories.

Not according to the DVSA/VOSA. 😉

BTW I think its hilarious you’ve deleted your pictures now! 😉

I can't bring myself to read most of the posts on this thread because they're probably shit but agree that whoever that was is a completely sad ****.

Maybe glasses are in order as you missed the smilie I put on the end of the post about the MOT history (see below). But then it wouldn’t be STW if people actually read what they are commenting on, would it? 😉

Anyway, it only takes 20 seconds to check MOT history...

Maybe if you stopped clipping curbs like that your suspension wouldn't need so much work on it. 😆

It’s always funny when people come on here expecting a Daily Mail response of “ooh yes its awful, people should MTOB, etc” then when people don’t agree they get all uppity and start insulting everyone else.

Basically if you didn’t park your van where you do, or had modified the parking area house so you didn't drive over the kerb there would be no problem in the first place. Only you can solve it.. 😉

Sorry just going to add a few more 😉 😉 😉 😆 for the OP and other permanently offended readers….

The very fact that you did makes you a sad ****.*

And enough with the winking; it's like you have a boulder in your eye or something...

*If indeed you did. It's really not clear. But you're still a ****.
