So i had buildings insurance on my last property for 15 years, i just let it renew each time. However i moved out in March when i sold the property - I've been in a rental for 6 months.

Just about to buy a new property - I assume the break of 6 months will reset to zero?

Most insurers say something like "No-claims bonus is earned for each year you continuously hold buildings & contents insurance without making a claim. (For the avoidance of doubt, landlord or commercial policies cannot be considered when calculating the number of years)."

I mean i've held buildings insurance continuously for 15 years but just not in the last 6 months.

I enquired with a couple of insurers via online chat and they both essentially said. "We are not regulated to give financial advise so I am not able to advise you on how to answer the question"

putting 9+ years on the quote will save me about £50 on the policy but i'd much rather not save the 50 quid if i'm giving them an excuse not to pay out
