Whilst not necessarily the same (but vaguely related to this topic) I think there is a real problem in developing countries with intelligent, good looking individuals (mainly girls) moving overseas to marry into more developed cultures. Certainly back in the early 90's when I lived in Germany I was a aware of several blokes (lets say not so lucky with the girls) who somehow ended up married to gorgeous, clever and ambitious Polish and Russian ladies. I always though that this was in some ways going to ultimately slow down the socio-economic development of those Eastern Countries as the best bits of the gene pool were being removed with obvious consequences.

Guess in effect, it is just another side to the old adage "the rich get richer, while the poor get poorer."

Hang on a minute. You mean all those attractive Russian ladies who keep emailing me aren't actually dazzled by my charm, wit and good looks after all? 😥

Could we soon be arriving at a position on immigration similar to that of A level results, where only pretty, photogenic, middle class females (no overweight, spotty male ones wearing tracksuits, god forbid!), prepaed to hug each, other while jumping (photogenically) in the air are of any importance?

They've been trialling this approach with Romanian immigrants for some time.

She is not only decent aesthetically, but she shows a strength of character which is just as beautiful - or something like that.

I don't see anything in the picture that is evidence of a strong character. Many images are used with the reliance on the viewer making an assumption, or many assumptions. The camera rarely needs to lie as people will project or fabricate whatever they fancy onto a photograph. Journalists are often well aware of this weakness.
