Discovered we have a load of 'fruits' growing on a bush in the garden, vaguely apple like in appearance but with a distinct smell (can't quite decide what they smell like but it's not apples). Skin is very waxy. Anyone got any ideas?

Thought they might be quince but everything I've read suggests they're more pear shaped and bigger, these are less than 2 inches across.

I posted elsewhere and think it's been correctly identified as a Japanese quince.
