The problem comes when people [s]design systems with air gaps in tanks/cisterns to prevent backflow and meet peak demands, which is all well and good, but means you lose most of the protection. Depending on the size of the plant/site/building the waters sometimes treated with more chlorine as it leaves the cistern to make up for what's lost.[/s] get the sperms in it.

The official term is turbidity. Not to be confused with turditity (which is something different.... )

*Glass media filter and a BFO circ pump.... 😆

*not being serious

I thought they'd be great to have till I lived with a girl with one, yes champagne and moonlight and whatever is fun, and it never went soupy, but it cost a bomb to heat and you needed to spend too much time testing/adding chemicals/cleaning filters/getting leaves and spiders out. And it rapidly stopped being fun.

From a work point of view I have seen some people with interesting rashes from them too... 🙂

Anyone else not feeling at all tempted by hot tubs?

Only when I'm caught short out for a run. Just hop over a fence, leave a deposit and continue with the run...

my sister in law built one from scratch which is wood fired with a little stove she also cannibalised a back boiler into. Cheap to run and can have hot coffee on the stove top. She was horrified when I suggested what her teenage boys were going to be doing in it with the local teenage girls...

I definitely got out and didn't treat it - didn't realise we had to until it went cloudy! Lady at hot tub shop has now told us to use a little bit of non-chlorine shock after we get out, so will do in future! The man at the hot tub shop today told us to make sure the ph is 7.2, no higher cos apparently Lincolnshire is water is full of, err, something or other, can't remember what he said. So, ph reducer has gone in, left a while, checked and another dose gone in. Will see how it is in a while.

Regardless of all the piss taking above it is possible to keep it clean and what you are being told by the "salesman" isn't right.
At the end of the day, salesman is all they are and don't really give a **** if you develop a rash once you've blown your load 😉
As my kids go in it I'm fastidious about the water quality and following a pretty quick and simple regime you'll keep it that way. Adding ph + - is required but again it's not a cure and actually keeping it neutral is a fine art. If you can be arsed to read it I don't mind dropping you an email with some tips to keep it right, let me know.

I thought we were all agreed that turgidity has been the problem here ?

Crack a couple of eggs in, works for consomme. Although you might end up with mutant man-chicken monsters

Tubs are easy fodder for forum jokes but are one of the great relaxers after a ride.

Wouldn't be without ours and certainly never had any filthy issues with very simple maintenance.

Above -a bath's temperature drops in use and doesn't invigorate you the same. In the cold evenings there is no equal!

Not for everyone, siting and expense have to be considered.

^ What is the point after a ride though - you can't just jump in filthy, you have to wash, then get in the hot tub.

Think of your carbon footprint.

A mate's got one. He loves it, despite never 'christening' it*.

*He's pretty fastidious about the cleanliness side of things.

Seems a bit of a waste to not 'christen' it...

Surely that's the point of getting an outdoor sex cauldron

That'd be great, thanks. I believe we can do messages on here these days?
The ph is now 7.2, bromine level is ok, the odd smell has lessened, but it's still cloudy. Water here is very hard, so some stuff was put in at the beginning to sort that and it reads ok.
T'other half didn't realise how lovely they are to sit in until we spent my birthday weekend here, and it has a hot tub.

I have a shower first.

Carbon footprint? I bet my overall numbers are less than the average family.

Not for everyone.

The neighbours kids bought an inflatable one and would party until 1.00am in it. We got tired of it and hoiked a bucket of crayfish over the fence into it.
Much half naked teen girl running action.

No sign yet. Personally I'm waiting for the 'Seems a bit shellfish' in response to Eddiebaby's post.

Hmm, our big puppy has now learnt to climb on the step and put her paws on the top edge - it's a bit slippery, she may just fall in one day, and have to learn to swim.

Tried sending this via the shitty message thing but no joy so just posted it up instead.

Hey, sorry for the delay in
responding from the earlier post.
So I bought my tub off a very intelligent geezer who gave us a 1hr chem lesson with follow up prior to us even switching them on. He really does know his stuff regarding water quality and has helped me loads since.
Basics are as I said in the post, always always treat after use, so easy to have a few cheeky beers and head off to bed without treating the tub.
So the regime I've got in place is bromine granular, much better than chlorine as it's far kinder on the skin but it isn't as potent chem wise. Everyday a good teaspoon of bromine goes in, (but still keep a check) if you're going away double up to cover it but dint go mad as it causes damage. If we use the tub we obviously up it depending on how many and how long, clearly we are a dirty bunch and one good tablespoon isn't aleays enough after use. It's a big balancing act to be fair.
Ph is very important, too acid and it rots the seals very quickly, which your mate at the tub shop will happily replace at £££.
So keep a close eye on It, depending on water and the people using it it can vary massively, to this day I've never put any ph - in my tub always ph + as it runs acidic. As for shocking, don't use any chlorine based shock, it ****s up the ph and sends the chlorine levels stupid, I use relax energize shock treatment. It's oxygen based like your ozonator if theres one fitted, you can buy 300g swimming pool bags which you then decant 10 times in to 30 g doses, far cheaper that way if you can be arsed but 30g sachets can be bought separately, use one of these every fortnight or after a heavy dogging session, this will clarify the water loads. Then if you can be arsed there s a magic liquid called flocculant, its like a clarifier and binds all the minute particles (yes there may even be some poo) together which will then stick in the filter it's great stuff but not really needed if you look after in the first instance. One last tip is remove and wash your filter regularly, that's the bit that does all the hard work. Hope some of that helps and enjoy the bubbles no matter what the naysayers have to be ever so secretly jealous about

Thanks wrightyson, that's helpful. We seem to have it under control now, with putting non-chlorine shock in after each use - it's still not crystal clear, and goes very milky with the jets on full, but that's tiny, tiny air bubbles. It didn't do that when the water was completely clear though. Oh, and it gets a constant dosing of bromine from the inline Frog cartridge thingy.
