So all change in the good ship English cricket. Giles, Silverwood & Thorpe gone and Straus returns.
Question I've never quite understood..... why is the role of selector and coach considered too much pressure for one person in cricket? Football, rugby and pretty much every team sport I can think of combine the roles. In fact, having a squad forced upon you as the head coach seems a bit bizarre. Yes, you'll need to trust your scouts but even so.....
I feel a bit sorry for Silverwood. We just don’t have many good players. If you put En*lands best 11 next to India and Aus, you wouldn't pick many of ours.

Yep, something has really gone awry since those series' against WI and Pak in 2020. That was a very entertaining summer. A few changes in personnel for sure, but as 2021 went along I couldn't help but feel shades of the 90s all over again. Part of me thought we could get some momentum by winning that last Test again Ind (which they 'cancelled') but they probably would have proved me wrong anyway.
Looking forward to the WI in a few weeks and just take it for what it is.

While that's true, some of the recent selectorial decisions have been bizarre, and it seems as though new players regress.
Langer has just stepped down. I wonder if he’ll be approached about taking over. Not sure I can see him in an England camp, but his style might shake things up a bit.
Mad that Langer is going after such success. What's been going on behind the scenes there?
Hearing it in different places that he has been spoken to.
Don't some of the Aussie players think he is a bit hard work ?
That article about Langer sounds like the polar opposite of what has gone before… It seemed to me that the Silverwood era was a bit too friendly and safe - in fairness possibly partly due to COVID… not sure an entire u-turn in approach is necessary, but something a little more inventive than picking a team based on what happened last time out would be welcome

Strauss will know what he's like.
Paul Collingwood named as interim head coach. least the fielding should be up to snuff.

A brilliant fielder doesn't automatically become a brilliant fielding coach. Also, one has to wonder about the athletic qualities of various players in the field in recent times. Hopefully you're right, so let's see.
Apparently Gillespie is on the shortlist for the F/T role.
Gillespie is a good option for head coach, he did a good job in the county game and is very well regarded as a coach. I'm surprised Aus aren't looking at him in truth.
Oh wadda picture, wadda wadda picture,
wadda wadda picture, wadda photograph!
Joe root looking like he's crashing a bicycle, Cav style.
England (men) win toss and bat first.
Looks like this is on BT sport and talk sport 😒
Yep, TalkSport, which simply isn't a patch on TMS.
The ball is sounding nice off Crawley’s bat
Ah yes, test cricket is back and we're losing an opener in the 3rd over. Joe Root may as well just open...
Make that 2 wickets.
Siigh
And there goes rooty... We'll be bowling by lunch
Well I stand corrected. Dropping Broad and Anderson has absolutely transformed the performance of this team.
Oh hang on, no it seems we still can't bat and it was nothing to do with the bowlers.
What was the point of dropping Broad and Anderson in order to try out new bowlers just to end up playing Woakes and Overton?

Well, quite. I was hoping to see what Parkinson and Mahmood could do. Instead, we've stuck with known quantities and will learn absolutely nothing. I suppose one or two of them will be dropped as punishment for batting failures so perhaps we will see some new bowlers later in the series.
Good comeback from Foakes and Bairstow, shames Foakes couldn't push on and get at least his fifty.
Well played Johnny
217-1! Are we all in shock?
Forget Mark Wood's injury for a moment...
Is anybody following the 2nd Australia V ****stan test at all...?
Sounds like it could be one for the ages! Records already being broken here and there... If ****stan chase this total down, it will be a monumental feat!
That said I do think Cummings was overly confident in batting a 2nd time rather than enforcing a follow on...
Just checked the scorecard - Babar 191*
Do they have time to get the remaining runs?
Babar 196....amazing innings - lovely seeing the Aussies fielding for 160 overs
Do they have time to get the remaining runs?
The world's number 1 ranked ODI and T20 batsman is in, with 6 wickets remaining and his eye in... And if there's a chance of a result on the final day, the umpires will usually consult with both captains and allow up to an extra hour's play...
Here's hoping!!!
Here’s hoping!!!
They'll take the draw...
Cobblers 🙁
Damn! Spoke too soon... Azam falls for 196... ☹️
Six down with 114 still needed.

Yeah I think on reflection, they'd be more than happy with the draw now!
Disappointing end to the day for England
A good day, but having hit 2 4s already, you just knew the canny Holder would push it a bit wider.
Stokes is in a hurry!
Its like a home game for England with that crowd!
89 runs before lunch. Not bad, Ben.
been brutal and the windies were rank by the end of the session
Who are these batters and what have they done with the real England team?
100 for Stokes.
Sadly the coverage is BTSport/Talksprt2 so I’m really only following on txt updates. How is Fisher bowling? Mahmoud always looks a bit scattergun whenever I’ve watched him.
I’m really enjoying the womens WC - WI got out of jail v BAN yesterday! Every game is a knockout for ENG now - big game Saturday night v NZ.
Oh dear 6 down
