A question posed on Twitter that I thought I'd throw out here:
"Who is the greatest batsman to play for England and why is it KP?"

Anderson, archer, leach, Bess, stokes and a bit of spin from root looks a good attack to me.

KP could/should have been, but his utter refusal to adapt to situations goes against him. I think Root is learning that skill right now, same as Stokes.

I like Bess and Leach, but their lack of cricket is showing in their poor lengths. Stokes looks a little rusty too - so knowing him he will bag a 5-fer now!

Good to wake up to.

The cynic in me says this looks like a these two could hang on to the end

As you were - Ashwin gone!

And with that Stokes delivery keeping low, we're now 2 wickets from victory!

The massive fuss over not declaring turned out to be totally unwarranted eh!

What an absolute legend Jimmy Anderson is. Those off stumps cartwheeling for the first two wickets - fantastic. Amazing ball from Stokes to take out Kohli and India's last chance of resistance.

Best test match performance I've ever seen from England.

Theres always a media argument over declarations. Its rare teams survive 3.5 sessions to draw on an Indian pitch.

Superb performance. Winning in India is the most formidable challenge for any touring test team.

Let’s win every toss & bat first 👍👍
You still need to perform, but it certainly helps out there.

Brilliant performance

It was, but at some point we'll lose the toss and Root will get a low score.

Been clearing snow and gritting since 05:00 today, been great to listen to this as I was doing so. Awesome performance from Anderson

Which, in turn, will mean Leach and Bess will need to take wickets and keep the scoring rate down at the same time.

But you can only play the game as it is at that point in time, so it is an excellent win and should be treated as such. The players are so grounded this days that they know this.

Oh sure. It's just that I'm too traumatized by following England through the 90s to allow myself to get excited yet.

following England through the 90s

That is like saying 'MacBeth' in a theatre. You need to do something now to lift the curse.

Moeen got Kohli with a great ball and is getting some good turn but also getting tonked for lots of runs.

India coming back well after a good start for England.

Anyone noticed how clean Foakes is behind the stump. Buttler has improved no end but Foakes is different gravy.

This looks like a fun place to bat. All over by tomorrow lunchtime? Maybe sooner.

Foakes. Yes, wonderful. Must...not...mention....batting...or....will...jinx!

This pitch though. Not good for test cricket in my opinion, I don't mind a pitch doing this on day 4 and 5, after the game's been set up, but before lunch on D2 is wrong. I know the argument is that it's the same for both sides but it's such a home track really.

And it's another lockdown derived situation; they could be refunding 2 or 3 days of advance ticket sales, which is why we can't return the favour in home tests. I know there is a crowd in but it's probably what, 25% of the capacity. If we prepared green seamers every time we needed a result the grounds / counties don't make the money that keeps them alive. I wonder if the ICB has to refund some TV money for allowing a pitch that'll see this done in <3 days?

I think the pitch is a result of back to back test meaning it was uncovered and being baked during the last test. It's poor situation though and I'd be saying the same if England had won the toss.

This umpiring is abysmal. Trust me, I opened the batting for years at club level, no reviews or DRS and for the first 10 overs my bat was tucked way behind my pad with no intent of playing at it, and I know what no shot looks like.

I was about to post that, actually, I think the umpiring has been pretty good in this series. But that 'no shot' was a shocker. As above, in club cricket that was clearly no shot offered.

It doesn't matter anyway. The pitch is a fricking minefield and england will do well to get 120 second dig.

Yup that was inexplicable. I hate to be a whinging pom but between the dodgy pitch and the umpiring it was always going to be an uphill struggle. Still, Foakes showed it was quite possible to bat on this surface.

In fairness, umpiring pretty good. It's a nightmare trying to umpire on a wicket like that with all that turn, bat pad double noises, and so on. That's where the DRS system is supposed to act as a safety net, but the 3rd umpiring has been awful.

And we wake up to find:
India still batting
Moeen with 4 wickets
And Ben Foakes standing up to Stuart Broad after a masterclass behind the stumps.

Great bit of analysis by Murali Kartik right now on Moeen's action.

Moeen has sacrificed action on the ball for consistency - I.e. reduced the number of moving parts, but lost some energy through the crease as a result.

Panesar did it with his pronounced hip swivel, gained consistency but lost a bit of 'snap'.

That's that then.
How many wickets will England lose before close?
And how close will they get to the India score?
