My dad gave me a call the other week, saying that he wanted get me something as a bit of a present to keep kinda thing.
He said the budget was a couple of hundred quid and suggested something like a watch, but I only really wear my G-Shock or a nice DNKY one my missus got me a while ago.
He asked what I wanted and I can only really think of bike related gubbins, but they're not exactly long term keepers if you know what I mean.
Any ideas?
A tie and blazer badge combination pack?
Full body tattoo? 🙂
A nice hip flask?
chlamydia
Picture?
a gold sovereign
"Son, I want to buy you something nice to remember me with"
"Why's that Dad?"
"No reason, Son, no reason......"
Seriously, get something nice that maybe you wont use all the time, but when you see it will make you think of your Dad. Not a tankard either 😀
All very useful suggestions, but nothing that makes me go 'ahh thats the ticket'
How about a nice pen? You could always get it engraved.
Mint Sauce cufflinks.
engraved hip flask?
Double edge razor, silvertip badger brush plus soap/cream and some blades.
A subscription to Razzle AND Escort?
Or a high end blow-up sex doll thing with self lubing orifices.
engraved hip flask?
With a Mint Sauce engraving!
engraved titanium cufflinks?
Wife got me some for our wedding anniversary, cost nothing like £200 mind but I like them
on a bike theme design and have custom made a unique headbadge?
Do you drive, if not driving lessons?
Necklace, Road ID, SOS Talisman, piece of art?
Original art of some sort? Painting/sculpture, something you'll like and want to keep with you through your life. NOT a cheesy portrait of the old man in a stately home stylee.
I drive, don't drink anything that'd go in a hip flask, wouldn't wear sheep shaped/embossed/engraved anything, don't really do jewelry other than my wedding ring, custom headbadge is just daft - if I change bikes it'l be useless.
Pretty stummped, my sister got a ring and my brother a banjo.
Do you cook?? If so how bout a decent set of kitchen knives?
@ the purist - sorted as wedding gifts along with proper copper bottomed stainless pans 😆
Perhaps I should just get some bike bits and be done with it
Any quality DIY tools you need/could replace with better ones? Stuff that you could keep and remember where they're from when you used them.
and my brother a banjo
Brilliant. Why didn't you think of that?
Titanium frame?
Do you play the guitar? You could get a decent acoustic for that - or even if you don't play, learn 😀
a rifle?
How about something abit more personal such as a lock of his hair? It wouldnt cost anything either.
Do you have any call for a decent knife, such as a hunting knife or something of that nature?
My dad bought me a quality knife that I use for fishing and so on...had it for years.
On a similar line to the rifle suggestion....what about a shotgun, then you can take up clay pigeon shooting with your dad.
Would definately go for a watch.
Probably a precista - uk based company..

Or a guitar

my sister got a ring and my brother a banjo.
Are you the family from Deliverance?
How about an experience? Perhaps something like a balloon flight with your dad. Remember it with a framed photo of the day.
Pocket watch?
How about getting him to teach you some skill that he's got, if possible? Like wood-working or something?
Free (or he could buy you the necessary tools etc), and allows you to spend time together in a nice positive way. And you'll always remember it.
My Dad gave me an inquisitive mind and a love of science, engineering, nature and music. I hold onto those 🙂
What interests do you share? Doesn't matter what the interest is, but say it was fishing, ask for a rod of his choice. Try to give him the subject, then he can choose, it'll make whatever it is all the more special in the end.
A banister.
What's this about pens? Does anyone use a pen much these days? Hardly the gift it once was, is it?
I write a lot. I only use fountain pens.
An Eccles miners' lamp
A top of the range Gerber or Leatherman, I would be lost without mine and they do last for ever and are repairable should you trash the blade as my son in law did with his (by using it as an inappropriate lever after using it for cutting sand bags for a week).
