Over the last 18months I have really fallen out of the loop with regards to films ๐
Looking to join Lovefilm or such like and need to start thinking about a list!
Any must see recommendations?
Any must be avoided at all cost films?
I thought that inception with that little runt decaprio was quite good.
The Happening, A film so utterly bad that any other film you watch thereafter will seem brilliant.
+1 for Inception.
In the Loop was great
Shutter island. Seven pounds. Stranger than fiction and anal invasion five are all films I've enjoyed this year
big yim - Memberanal invasion five

...anal invasion five are all films I've enjoyed
I thought they went downhill a little after number 3, it's hard to keep the momentum of new ideas when the plots are essentially the same each time...
Prefered Shutter Island to Inception but both really good, Up and Toy Story 3 for your inner child

I thought they went downhill a little after number 3
Couldn't agree more they're simply riding on the success of the first three. And in five they just seem to be right up themselves.
Another one here for Inception, shutter island I thought was a little predictable but good non the less, I enjoyed Iron man 2 recently.
Iron man 2 is shockingly bad - I can't imagine a less "must see" film
We use Tesco DVD rental which is basically LoveFilm. Not a huge film fan so the strategy we use is to select films with a % rating of 70% or higher...given enough ratings, the truly good films do shine through and get the ratings they deserve.
Its worked a treat and we've seen some great films we wouldn't necessarily have picked like The Kite Runner, Milk, or The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life.
Of the 60 odd films we seen now, it only failed once...Twilight
IF, about public schoolboys running amok in a private school on their Army day, filmed in Cheltenham and at the time was really rebelious, but now oh so real and it could happen.

District 9
I've been getting some old classics recently, Some Like It Hot was pretty good and I enjoyed Casablanca. Watched Precious and The Blind Side last week, both pretty good too. Let The Right One In is worth a watch if you don't mind subtitles, as is Daywatch/Nigh****ch.

Let the right one in
I'm liking zombie films at the moment - Zombieland (a zom-com featuring the dreamy Emma Stone) and The Crazies were both very good.
Dead Mans Shoes if you've not already seen it.
I thought it'd be boring, but I really enjoyed The Social network. Very verbal, great dialogue. Interesting departure for David Fincher. Well worth a watch. Is it on DVD yet?
Recently saw Inside Man on Bluray. Its a heist movie with a twist, directed by Spike Lee with an excellent Bollywood theme tune, weird combination! Great leads from Denzil Washington and Clive Owen and a great supporting cast too. Highly recommended!

Its not random mate I edited out the ones we had seen & I didn't like at all, and Inception isn't in my list is it?
There are some very, very strange suggestions for 'good' films on here but fair enough, if we were all the same it'd be a boring place.
Sorry. I can't restrain myself. Mr Overhsoot you have the weirdest taste I've ever seen.
The men who stare at goats has to be one of the worst films I've ever seen. I literally wanted to shoot the telly it was so bad. I kept waiting for something funny or clever to happen, perhaps I'm too stupid to get it.
The Da Vinci code. The film actually manages to be worse than the book, which is quite an achievement. It's so terribly boring and uninteresting that even the actors can't be arsed making an effort.
And finally, and I accept this is a radical opinion, Pan's Labyrinth. ... I don't take drugs any more so this film was seriously hard for me to get my head round. Actually it was just pretty shit.
re: inception, I was adressing the OP, don't get yer knickers in a twist cos you like crap films. I don't care!
Couple of interesting documentaries:
Grizzly Man - about a man who lived in the wilderness with bears
Man on Wire - the story of the cheeky French tightrope walk between the Twin Towers
A film about a true story: Into the Wild - about a young guy who disappeared into the wilds of Alaska (the original book is also excellent)
A great film for anyone who loves cycling: Breaking Away
Let the Right One In - offbeat Swedish vampire film, as recommended by everyone and their dog!
