Yep, only one mind. You're allowed one favourite track too ๐
Over to you ...
nick cave - there she goes my beautiful world
eddie vedder - guaranteed
Willie Dixon - Back Door Man
Neil Young - Tonights The Night
Hmm probably Nick Drake - Fruit Tree
@ BoardingBob - from "Live Rust"?
For me, it can only be Van Morrison. One man who can reduce me to a quivering emotional wreck. Tough call but "Flamingoes Fly" from The Philosopher's Stone.
Paul Weller - Whirlpool's End
'...Bullets fall like unholy rain, People change as the panic sets in. A frightened baby by her dead mother's side, in a brutal world where there's nowhere to run, hide or cry...'
Genius!
CG, I'd have to go for the original recording. The rawness of the original recording is electric.
Chris de Burgh - Lady in Red
Or what about Neil Young - 'Cinnamon Girl' ๐
God..that's a difficult one... so many to choose from. Varies week on week, but at this precise moment it's Warren Zevon and probably Desperadoes under the Eaves.
I hereby name David Lewis Gedge 'GOD'.
My Favourite Dress
Fish/Marillion - Warm Wet Circles
At the moment?
Frank Turner - Lyrical Genius
Have a listen
Ozzy Osbourne- Hand of doom
Justin Sullivan
song - Green & Grey. although JS only wrote the words. Music by the late & much missed Robert Heaton
Conor Oberst (I think) - Poison Oak
out of interest - does anyone actually read these sort of threads and investigate other people's likes or do they just post their favourite and think that's that?
Only one!
I'd have to go for Springsteen.
Probably Thunder Road
Those who almost made it include:
Neil Young
Van Morrison
E
Neil Finn
Peter Gabriel
@ Mackem - I find it useful to hear other people's recommendations and it's good to have my ears opened to other stuff. So yes!
favourite nick drake, but someones already mentioned him (black eyed dogs my personal favourite tho)
but as hes already been mentioned i was always quite impressed with Tim Booth of James....
Will Oldham.
Too many tracks to choose from - have to respect the cannon and go with I see a darkness, legendary track.
Just as a one-off, Raglan Rd sung by Luke Kelly is a peerless song. It's rare to get song lyrics written by a proper poet - rarer still to get them sung by an all time great vocalist. So when Luke Kelly gets to grips with Raglan Rd, written by the eminent Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh, you've got [url=
really special.
Steve Harris
Frank black - debaser (pixies)
Damn, this is tough, like Desert Island Discs, but with CG at the controls - and narrowed down to only one choice!
Generally speaking, music for me is about putting the listener in a different place, pressing emotional buttons.
There's no other way to do this, so I've gotta cheat. Favorite songwriter would still (despite recent decline in quality) be Rennie Sparks of the Handsome Family, for reducing me to ashes everytime I listen to "Milk n Scissors".
And honourable mention to Jason Lytle, formerly of Grandaddy, for writting at least three played-em-to-death classic albums. Again, pressing buttons to get a response - music by numbers - but by 'eck, he knew what he was doing! 8)
Will Oldham/Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.
Favourite track, mmm you are kidding right? It would be like trying to choose which your favourite child is...
Edit: whoops, didn't see you there Gary. Yup ISaD is defintely one of the blue eyed ones... ๐
Today: Ian Curtis. New Dawn Fades.
I'd have to go for me
Angus & Malcolm Young, Brian Johnson - Hells Bells. Just because it's on the radio just now.
Carol King too many good songs to choose just one.
Colin Jerwood (Conflict)
Song: Tough Sh*t Mickey
Springsteen - difficult to choose just one track but I'll go for Thunder Road.
Billy Bragg any one of a number but for today maybe Fear is a mans best friend!!!
Eddie Vedder - The End
Just under 3 minutes of absolutely everything I need from a song.
+1 for bonnie prince billy, but for me it's got to be Elliott Smith.
Different every day but today and a lot of other days it would be Nick Cave More news from nowhere
Probably Roger Waters and Gilmore/Waters Wish you were here
Richard D James. Untitled, although I believe it has a pictogram ๐
Frank Turner, always makes me think, usually makes me smile
jeffrey lewis - arrow. i'm sure there're plenty of people who'd describe it as sub-velvet underground, but i think it's totally amazing.
Reluctant - I think Handsome Family are husband and wife team, he writes the music and she writes the words. I have a book of short stories by Rennie Sparks its quite scary.
Bob Mold for me in Sugar, close draw with Colin Macintyre of Mull Historical Society.
Although obviously I mostly listen to reggae and gangster rap.
Elton John with lyrics by Bernie Taupin ( yes I know you said only one but they're like Lennon and McCartney).
Love lies bleeding in my hand.
David Walls, AKA Ginger from the Wildhearts. Despite heroic efforts to destroy his talent with drink and drugs, still sh*ts great songs. Can't name a best track but most of his B-sides would be career best singles for other rock bands. Oh, let's say Do Anything but if I was to choose another one in 5 minutes it'd probably be something else.
But if I was allowed 2, number 2 would be Colin MacIntyre I think. And best track, Your Love My Gain.
