I have just moved to Henley on Thames area from Shropshire and apart from it looking a great countryside area, it doesn't seem to have the wealth of routes and clubs when I used to live in Shrewsbury...

Can anyone recommend MTB clubs / groups that ride in the area (seem a lot of road ones), and also routes. Save me being a lost sad solo mountain biker getting lost and missing the prime biking around. Cheers

Head west from you. Christmas common, checkendon, above pangbourne, goring, Wallingford.

If you want rides with others I'm sure I can help.

It's 5-10 miles out the way, but not too far.

I ride round that area all the time - great place for riding. Drop me an email and I can show you some trails if you like.

Slightly east from you is Cookham which has a smallish but decentish set of trails in Bisham Woods. I’m happy to show you around some time, drop me a message 👍

I'm just a bit north of you near Watlington and I ride a bit around Christmas Common and The Ridgeway. I'm fairly new to the area but I'll happily show you the trails I know.

I often ride midweek if anyone's up for work-dodging ride!

Reading CTC have a very active MTB group - they ride in the Chilterns and Berkshire Downs. They start in Caversham which is not too far from you.
And your not overly far from Swinley there either.

Some lovely riding around Henley. Grew up around there, school and college etc. Head north or west and into the woods and you can't really go wrong to be honest.

Get a copy of explorer OS171 and marvel at the hundreds of miles of classic woodland singletrack that is now yours to explore. Used to be my old stomping ground and while to be fair it perhaps lacks really stern climbs and technical stuff, there's so much variety you can link together.

It's maybe not the best "all weather" riding - wait till winter sets in,  but it'll be at its finest now. Jealous

I used to live in the area. Lots of good riding. I found this guide useful for inspiration - found lots of good places I wouldn't have otherwise. I didn't stick to the routes, but used them as a basis along with the OS maps and the strava heatmaps. Enjoy!
