Anyone own one of these?

Not much in it to be honest, but the Alpkit has a hood.

Its to chuck in the boot of the car or use for walking the dog in bad winter weather etc.

Found a Odin for £82 so basically the same price.

What he said.

You could get a (synthetic) Paramo Torres smock for that price.

Down isnt the place for dog walking in winter weather? I'd disagree.
Maybe not for wet winter weather, but for cold dry days, nothings better surely?

Ever tried walking a dog at 7am in sub-zero temperatures?

Plus, IF I ever break down I'd rather have a down jacket inside the spare wheel compartment than a waterproof jacket in the winter

Depends how reliable the weather is where you live I suppose. Can't trust it here, it changes very quickly.

Buffalo jacket? The full zip one, not the mountain shirt.

Personally I prefer a jacket with a hood.

It's the silent killer. People need to be made aware.

nah dont have a dog - just ride to work at 5.30am

havnt died yet.

you can go synthetic...

down gets wet its pretty useless so if it rains your going to get rather cold

I own downjacket and vest , and yes i do wear them in cold weather - but if i was choosing an emergancy jacket it would be synthetic with a waterproof outer layer

bit bulkier and not as cool and down with the other dog walkers (see what i did there ;))

but hey - its your money

Yeah yeah. I'd die from shame if the fashionistas didnt see me with my Frappucino in hand, Yak hat and stylish down jacket whilst out and about in Urbania

PHD- who where?

The PHD's are much lighter than the Alpkit but not as cheap. If you're keeping it in the back of the car rather than the bottom of a Camelbak then maybe the Alpkit's the one to go for. I've got an Alpkit Filet down vest and it's great. It packs down small but they come up largish. If you want to wear it under a waterproof or only over a couple of baselayers then I'd go down a size. I'd wouldn't mind one of them PHD down jackets at the current sale prices though 🙂

I'm leaning towards the Lego Blue Alpkit as its got the option of a hood... still torn as I own a Mountain Equipment sleeping bag that I've owned/used since 98 and it still in 100% mint condition 😐

If the Alpkit is durable though I think I'll go for that one 🙂

my alpkit filo jacket has served me well, took it to the top of kilimanjaro, at 50quid (sale price) if it gets trashed so be it. Just a pity its snotter green and not waterproof.
