Who cares what's cool other than 12 year old school kids anyway? If you want to do a "cool" sport take up kitesurfing. I've never yet mentioned it in passing to someone and not be overheard by someone who has a dozen questions about it, who then gathers other people who also want to know. Not sure why, but it's funny to watch.

Well having just visited the Apple store, I would say everyone in there yearns with all their heart to be cool. 😉 When I walked in it was like an oil spill of uncoolness spreading across the smooth waters of the sea of chilliness. I sat down on the genius bench next to some men with Spandau Ballet haircuts and those trousers that crack me up and after a few minutes my anti-cool magnetism pushed them away.

I'm seriously uncool by default - I ride a Specialized.
However, I ride a Specialized (S-Works Enduro) because they make bloody good bikes and I couldn't give a toss what it says on the downtube. Also, I've never seen another one on the trails. The same can't be said for Orange 5's - although I have nothing against them (well, apart from them being ugly, rattly and heavy 😉 )

I've certainly seen more enduros on the trails than I have 5's. I don't know if they were S works or not, not that it makes any kind of difference.
Enjoying doing something/anything is cool IMO
when you become a grandad, and still ride a mtb it is uber cool...
My dad stills ride his MTb all the tiem at 72 :-)... so he is just cool at the moment because I hav'nt filled a pram yet 😉
If you think mtb isn't cool or you have to qualify why its cool you should stop ****ing riding. MTB is the coolest thing ever pretty much so get out there and ride your bike. Revel in getting muddy, cut and torn. When riding past yobby teenagers wearing hoodies dont even acknowledge them whilst the snot pours out of your nose down your face.
If you want to "try" and be cool definately don't do skids. They make you look liek a prick.

I think we're all skirting round the elephant in the virtual room here. The reason why mountain biking is seen as uncool by the general public is because they view it as rambling with a bike, which is pretty close to the truth. I'm happy with that. I think it's good that road riding has taken off in a big way, good for safety and good for the only sport I've any real interest in. But I'd rather not have loads of new riders on the trails thanks, I think keeping a low profile there is probably better.
Well I think it's cool, getting out in the fresh air, feeling alive, having fun, riding down a mountain (very occasionally), how can that not be cool?!It may not be percieved as cool by the general public, but so what. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't have a passion for something, what a waste of life.

If I tell anybody that I do Mountain Biking the image in their head is of me puffing along a canal tow path on an Apollo, or centre parcs.
However I have shown non bikers, Danny Harts run and Danny Macaskills videos, they have been suitably impressed.
If mountain biking was more underground, and was formed out of an elite cadre of rippers, that only rode at night, then it would be very cool.
Skill is cool, at least people admire it.
Lycra is not cool. Maybe in the south or something, but no, budgie smuggling is not cool.
Oh BTW jumping is cool, I was talking to a lass, who asked if I could do tricks, I said no, but I can do jumps (small tabletop jumps - didn't mention that though 😳 ) she replied with: oh cool.

Anyone who thinks mountainbiking is cool is seriously deluded. Sure some proponents of it can be cool - but for the majority of us? Bunch of geeks in strange outfits. There is no "scene" attached to it, there is no music, tehre is no fashoin, there is no cool.
Ramblers - terminally uncool however some mountaineers? cool as ice. Same with the mountainbikers. Just cos Danny Macaskill is cool does not mean I am or Hora is.
Surely riding mountain bikes is only cool outside of the summer? What are you all on about?

I have accepted that as soon as I am on a bike pretty much the whole population of england hates me and wants me dead. or off the road/out of the woods. Its well uncool and I love it.
As I said, everyones definition of cool is different.

Indeed they are - the point is that just because some mountaineers are cool it does not mean that all ramblers are cool. Similarly just because Danny Macaskill is cool it does not mean Hora and me are cool
