A wee while back I posted about the idea of motorcycling around a bit of Europe with my son, in the hope that it might help him rethink some of his life choices. Thank you to all who replied. And an update.

So 19yo son did his bike test, went well and 1 week later, he and I set off. That was 4 weeks ago. He's riding my old Bandit and we're camping. So far have pottered through bits of Belgium, Germany, just into Switzerland, across to Austria, Slovenia, and now Italy. Heading to Spain to meet Mrs A and son2, and then home, probably end Sept.

He's loving the riding, and riding well. Were doing heaps more than i imagined, c.3000miles so far. The roads and sights have been great. He's recognised the need to concentrate, and has said this is a good antidote to aimlessly scrolling thru Instagram. Camping and 1 pan meals have been fun. We're getting along v well. It's a privilege to be able to do it. And so far, no mishaps.

So this is a thanks to all for the encouragement. I was apprehensive but definitely those who said not to over think it we're bang on. Just a great experience, and hopefully a longer term help for son.

Nice one, sounds like you're having a great time.

I'm just in the process of getting my bike licence - and when I have it, an extended road trip is very much on the cards.... 🙂

Really happy you ignored the nay-sayers and went for it - fantastic! Easy, isn't it?

https://postimages.org will help you on the Android phone. To be honest, it would be great to see it simply incorporated straight into the either here... #hint

I'm popping down to Frankfurt on the bike next Friday - pity you are going the other way!

Rachel

Here you go. Just posting something from the link above just to prove it works okay.

Edit - you just need to go to that site, upload an image and then copy the “direct link” to paste into the image thingy on here

Nice pics!

As an aside, he's got the same lid as I have, does he find it really noisy?

Thanks all, and we're loving it...bar the current thunderstorms so we're holed up in a damp tent.

Sobriety - it's the only one he's ever used so no comparison. I have a v similar Shoei one and it's quieter/lighter than the HJC one I'm currently using.

👍 Me likey! I’d love to do a similar thing with my oldest  but on push bikes.  That top pic is Montie  Brione at the Garda Lake if I’m not mistaken. Used to be a very good downhill track to the lake from the top back in the day  but unfortunately had to be closed due to the amount of people using it. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I hate you, in the best possible way! I'm likeing the look of the road int he second pic.

Cheers for the lid update, I had a shoei raid before the qwest, and that was quiet enough to wear for short rides without earplugs, the qwest is not, my one whistles continuously, and gets worse when I turn my head, I hope you've got him in earplugs if his is the same!

Just been out for a few hours on my dads old bike, shame he's not here to go with me anymore. BRAAAAAAP.

I have to stick to taking my boy round a field for a few years, I'll build up to Europe slowly!!
