[#10222834]

It's time to change my phone and I think I have it down to the Motorola (Lenovo now, if I read right)

But G6 @£199, or G6 Play for £60 less. Which is £60 after all.

I understand the Play is less metal / more plastic, slightly slower processor and lower screen res but better battery life, and given it lives in a case makes me wonder if I really would benefit from the additional spec of the G6.

Anyone made the same decision recently and what did you go for?

I went for the Amazon variant of the G6. Dual sim although dont really need that currently and more memory.

I do like the two replies so far give two additional options just to make things more complicated.

I have G6 as work phone - it is a good machine. Smooth,  nice to use and usual simple Android Moto.

Only hassle so far is the Youtube app that repeatedly stutters.

Nice long/narrow to hold in hand.

I was torn between the Amazon G6 as above and the Nokia 6.1.  Went with the latter - on paper at least it's better in every respect bar the camera.

How about you could buy my G5s which is basically the G6 play for £60 and I'll buy the G6?

I've been doing a lot of research into this lately and the G6 remains top go the list in terms of bang for buck.

Three now.......in four replies.

For reasons unspecified it'll be through Giffgaff, so all the Amazon spec / Nokia alternates are nice to know but don't really help.

You can add a micro SD for more storage on both I believe, and I don't watch films / videos....oddly it's used as a phone more than anything, a bit of email / social media and a music player. i don't even take photos (just checked to verify that, in my gallery I have (had*) 32 photos.

* now 20, because 12 were of stuff I was selling on here / ebay and therefore not needed any longer.

where’d you source the 6.1 Cougar?

It's exclusive to Carphone Warehouse in the UK.

Just got an E5 for my daughter - lovely phone for £58 on a one month Vodafone contract from Carphone Warehouse.

I have a G6 sitting on my desk right now as my personal phone.  Alongside it is a Samsung S8, which is my work phone.  The G6 is about 80% as good as the S8, at a fraction of the price.

I looked at the G6 Play when I bought it, but the better camera and spec of the G6 was more important than the better battery of the G6 Play.

G6 is a perfectly fine phone, and pretty much stock Android.

I had the g6 play for a month until my daughter killed it. Found it stuttery - I'd buy the g6 instead.

(I've actually got a xaomi mi instead).

the g5 was notoriously shit

the g6 was reviewed as everything the G5 should have been.

I have a G6(came from a G3) and its good for what i want, Camera is slow but usable for the limited photos i take with it .

the inhand feel was just a more quality product than the play and it just seemed like i would last better.

My mum recently got an E5 , might be lower spec gubbins and screen than you want but it has Oreo, NFC, 4000mah battery, fingerprint sensor. 120 quid from John Lewis (think you get a 2 year guarantee from them).

G6 plus. More power is always better and gets a useful finger print sensor.

My boss had a G5 and upgraded to a G6 Play because he was moaning about the battery life. I had the G5 off him to replace my G3 which I gave to my OH.

He's happy with the G6 and says the battery life is much better. Im happy with the G5 and find it comparable to the G3 for battery life.

Given the choice I'd have had the G6 Plus, but its only available at Carphone Warehouse.

First I’ve heard of it.

The G5 was definitely downspecced from the G4, lower quality camera, smaller screen, less powerful processor, etc, which is why I went for the older G4 rather than the 5 when I was looking.

The only thing I don't like about my G4 is the lack of a compass built into it. Anyone know if this has been resolved with the G6?

I sold mine quite quickly.

G4 was great. G5 not so. G6 PLUS is decent to. Not great on battery and adaptive screen brightness is not the best but everything else is good.

What is less useful about the finger print sensor on the standard G6?

Very happy with my G6. Haven't had a different phone to compare it to but battery life is good (and it charges ever so quickly) and I've had a lot of compliments on the photos I've taken.

Its not overly clear. My one does (the amazon dual sim variant) but it doesnt seem all variants do.

Has anyone compared the G6 with an X4?  Seems very similar, the X4 is faster despite less Ram and is waterproof...?

have to say i've been very happy with my G5. it replaced a sony z3 compact, which was ok as a phone, sony's software was a pita, but most importantly, the ****ing thing kept breaking.

G5 has been good for 2 years or so now.

g5 isnt a bad phone - it just wasnt really much of an upgrade over a g4 almost anything would be better than an xperia z3 - hell a landline would trump that.

but the 6 really is a step up - and popularly reviewed as everything the g5 should have been.

my single sim g6 from argos sim free doesnt have a compass.

In the same boat looking at a G6 as my Nexus 5 touch screen has got buggered up.

What about the Sony XA2?

If that's a universal offer I'd take you up on it. My G3 is shagged but I can't really justify £200 odd for a new version at the mo. I bought my mum a G5 and it seems perfectly ok.

The G5 went back to a sensibly pocketable (IMO) size though which is why I avoided the otherwise decently specced G4. It'll be interesting to see where they go with the next gen, but they're creeping back up a bit with the G6's voguish 18:9 display.

Cheers for the compass comments, think that Amazon one may well be on the shopping list.

I have the G5S and my better half has the G6.  G6 is faster, better screen and is what I really should have waited fro after deciding my G3 was too slow.  Teh g3 was not too slow but the G5S is great.  I'd go for the G6 not the G6 Play because it is only £60 difference which in cycling terms is sod all.

I've a G6 play and my better half has the G6, camera is far better on hers, but I far prefer the rear finger print sensor and bigger battery of the play.

Both good phones, my play was stuttery to start with till it received all its updates, since then it's been fine.

Young Seadog has the Amazon G6.

For the money, it's a fantastic phone.
