This is an odd concept that ads are just to get you talking. No they're not they're meant to make you buy the product.

You of course are immune. It's just gullible fools like me that fall for it.

I'm a real ale drinking, corduroy wearing, beard sporting fixie rider so it's next to impossible that a pint of strongbow will ever pass my lips.

It's not even subliminal. Brand awareness is just as important as direct selling (maybe more so), so any ad that people talk about is a good ad even if it's a bad ad.

So the quality of the advert has had zero effect on you, I can't see where they have failed or why an "improved" advert would have made a difference.

The fact that despite never letting cider pass your lips you are willing to give Strongbow free publicity suggests that the advert hasn't failed. Presumably if the advert had been to your liking you wouldn't have provided product placement for Strongbow on a cycling forum. It looks like a win for Strongbow to me.

Yeah, I know what it means, but an ad being so crap that everybody talks about it, isn't subliminal.

I see those ads every so often on the TV and I think "they're crap"...this is the first time I've discussed this openly on an internet forum; in fact with anyone I know.

Hey, it's like an AA meeting. 🙂

"My name is Darcy and I think some adverts are crap"

Next step?

OK maybe it's not directly subliminal, but many adverts are meant to be memorable for crapness/anoyyingness, like Daz.

suggests that the advert hasn't failed

I wasn't commenting on its effectiveness as an ad more the stupidity of the plot.

What strange attitudes some people are demonstrating to this.

Please can we just all stay quiet for a minute, otherwise HE'S going to come crashing into the thread. 🙂

cynic-al, fair point, well made. á la WeBuyAnyCarDotCom...did you notice that when they went to just doing the door-closing, clunks and clicks to the timing of WeBuyAnyCarDotCom that you realised what the ad was for before they said? Arsing annoying bastards.

Some adverts are so crap though they actually put you off the product, due to their advertising campaign I will never buy "bodyform".

It's only its effectiveness as an ad which matters, whether the plot is stupid or not doesn't matter.

Indeed it is your attitude which I find a little strange.

And btw since I hadn't seen it I looked it up, and I quite like it. In fact it's made me a little thirsty. Anyway, in case someone else hasn't seen it and to provide it yet more free publicity :

This forum IS marketing.

The marketing industry is actually rather scared of social media, it gives control to their customers, and away from them.

But the second we comment on a brand or product, good or bad, we are also part of the marketing process...

Absolute poppycock!

This forum is social media
Social media is used for marketing purposes
Therefore this forum is marketing, no?

It's part of STW's marketing (part of their product)
It's got advertising all over it from third parties
We discuss brands on here every day (recommendations, reviews, negative reviews etc)
Cotic use it all the time, CRC used to use it to deal with customer service issues, Superstar did a lot of damage to their reputation on this forum)

You do know that companies use sentiment tracking tools which record every mention of their brand on social media, and use that to understand what people think about their brands and products...
