there's a Lady GaGa song been done by The Melvins (or some such) - in the same kind of style as Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal". Shame I can't remember which one it is...

that's alright, that is. Different to the original, which is one of two ways to do a cover version.

The other way is to do it note/beat perfect, and I don't see the point of that. may as well turn up to karaoke night / watch X-factor (same thing really). Except for Walk On By (above), which is sublime

Is it a proper cover version if you include your own words. And owls.

Just seen Little Roy (elderly Jamaican reggae chap) on Jools Holland covering Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box". That was quite interesting....

Comedy covers aside - I still love this version of Superstar by Sonic Youth.
Thanks to Bob Mills for introducing me to it!

Most of the 60's great rock tracks by Zeppelin/Stones/etc were blues covers!

Many years ago, I recollect a group potentially called Leather Nun doing a cover of Abba's Gimme, Gimme, Gimme....it was great....

Can't corroborate the song but yes, i can confirm Leather Nun. It was a band Neil Linford, who was the coolest kid at school was championing in probably 86 or 87?

That just got wierder, when you see who introduces them. Didn't have him as being a swedish early death metal fan.

The Meads Of Asphodel covered Wonderful World, sang it like Louis but changed the lyrics.
Alice Donut did a superb cover of war Pigs but replaced Ozzy's vocals with a trombone.
Apocalyptica (4 Finnish Cellists and a drummer) covered David bowie's Heroes renaming it Helden and putting the vocalist from Rammstein to work on it in his mother tongue.
Dead Kennedys version of Viva Las Vegas is pretty good fun.

All well worth fishing out on youtube (as always, if I knew what I was doing I'd post 'em here meself).
