[#12359124]

Hi, daughter off to Borneo with school and needs a sleeping bag that will take up the least amount of space in the rucsac as possible. Its obvioulsy not getting cold at night so something just to keep comfortable (1 season type affair). She wants a bag rather than just a liner.

We've seen a synthetic one in Decathlon for 35 quid - anything else that she should be looking at?

Cheers

Down will pack smaller than synthetic for the same warmth rating.

Maybe an elephant foot? And a lightweight duvet jacket.

Alpkit have a new one season bag just out. You could always then reclaim it for a bikepacking set up on her return.

Down bag for size and weight, but they're not cheap.

Something like the Alpkit Pipedream 200 would do the job. That'll pack up to a size not much larger than a can of beer.

OMM do some very lightweight bags, aimed at the Mountain Marathon crowd. A bit minimalist for my tastes (and prevailing camping conditions).

Thanks - nervous about down in a rain forest! I guess some are pretty moisture resistant now? Price is a factor - doesn't have to match the £35 Decathlon price but we can't go into the hundreds. She's also quite limited in stature but I guess there's no option for shorter bags?

No experience in rainforest, but if you're careful, it shouldn't be an issue keeping the bag dry. Best to store it in a dry bag.

You'll probably get an acceptable pack size from a synthetic bag, but it's always going to be a fair bit more than down.

Borneo = humidity (depending on where they are going of course - could be air conditioned for all I know)
I would go for a synthetic quilt like the snugpak jungle blanket and a silk liner.
What is her rational for not a liner?

Quite like that Snugpak travelpak 1. Seems to tick most ofthe boxes and a built in mossie net can't be a bad thing! Very long for her but that seems to be the compromise to make. The Rab one is a bit spendy.
